What modding tools do you use?

I'll share what I've been using. It's called Notepad++ and can be found here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/notepad-plus OR http://notepad-plus.sourceforge.net/uk/site.htm
I've had no problems with it viewing all the files in the data directory, and when it comes to actually wanting to mod an xml file its pretty nifty there. It's GNU General Public License, so free to download.

Generally standard notepad for text, script or code, it's basic and reliable.
Graphics photoshop or PSP, maybe 3D max. Very dependant on the actual task at hand.

I believe the plan is to make the game very mod friendly, which I am happy about, but I'm more interested in total modification potential rather than tweaking a few settings, adding a couple of events or changing a few graphics so will be interested to see just how far it can be stretched.

Its things like that which make a good game great. Months later people will still be making new content for the game. Who knows maybe there will be a total conversion to GalCiv 2 that puts Empires at war to shame.

Photoshop mainly, a bit of 3D Studio Max. For text based modding, it's good ol' Notepad++.

The only modding I've got planned is a custom race based on the humans (see personal icon).

A Dremel 10.8 volt cordless and an older corded model. The cordless just doesn't have the torque I need sometimes.

Oh, you mean software... Nah... I'm a hardware guy.

I use gvim for windows (www.vim.org). Comes with windows explorer extensions and everything!

EditPlus is a good xml editor as well.
