Some ideas I have regarding Melee

like Meteors, Cloud Nebula, black holes, etc.

1) As you know, Meteors don't do damage when in battle during melee. (other than bouncing off you and being a pain) lol.

With multi player melee coming I presume, we should limit these meteors to astroid belts in the game, where you can choose to fight and they should also cause damage to your ships like planets do.

This could be for experts who want a challenge.

So picking the planets, moons, etc before melee battle would be a pretty cool game mode.

I believe in sc2, there were always 5 meteors at any given time flying around. So when 1 got blown up, it was immediately replaced with another.

But in normal melee battles, you could battle without the meteors as well. Depending the site/map of where you want to do battle.

2)cloud Nebula

When in battle during melee, a cloud Nebula could form, causing all energy drainage temporarily for ships. Most likely the secondary weapon.

This could be used as a strategic plan for players or an unlucky, unfortunate accident for others.

using sc2 as an example for this. Imagine a Yehat unable to shield while flying thru a Cloud Nebula during melee mode?

Not to mention the speed of ships could be affected, too.

3) black holes

black holes have a very powerful gravitation pull. Imagine fighting in melee with one?

Where your ship could not move, leaving you a sitting duck.

maybe put 1 black hole per galaxy?

If these were in on-line gaming as well?

perhaps any of these 3 additions would be ideal places to start your homeworld for your home base? If you can choose, where you want to place your alien/human race.

Give yourself a little defense while building your Armada?

Just some ideas I have as a non-founder, but diehard star control fan.

btw, I want to keep this game as close to star control as possible and not becoming a different game.

but these additions would be pretty cool and give the player a little realism, while still keeping the cartoony star control that we love.

But also gives those, who become great melee players, a challenge to improve their in game fighting skills.

Since melee, is now in a solar system and not a little area with one planet, I thought this would be good ideas to throw out there.

Black holes would be awesome! Scientifically speaking, there are supposed to be tiny black holes all over, but they don't gather enough matter to matter. If SC4 plopped one in every 10-20 fights, it could make for some very fun combat!

You have to keep asteroids though! I like the idea of a static asteroid belt too though.

There is too much chance that asteroids might become useful in designing new ships and races to remove them regularly from a map. For example, I have an idea for a mining race that catches asteroids and shoots them for massive damage as its secondary ability. If asteroids aren't regular, then that kind of race design wouldn't be possible.

I hadn't thought of gas clouds in melee until I read this, but that would be nice too! It could be something as simple as taking 1/2 damage when in a gas cloud, but even that would make combat more interesting without substantially changing the pace on it. Even if they just put that in PvP mode and not in the campaign, it's very worthwhile looking into.
