Sorry, but I still don't see the usefulness of programming in a treaty that only applies to shared trade routes. If you're close enough to another race for that sort of treaty, you might as well go for a full alliance. If a war breaks out, one of those freighters is eventually going to get destroyed, so you're going to get dragged into the war regardless (although a little later than with a full alliance, and perhaps too late for you to be of any help). Or this whole war goes on under your nose

That's already built into an alliance, though. If the Terrans and Torians are allied, and a Torian freighter is attacked (no matter where it's going) the Torian is going to declare war with the attacker. Per the terms of the alliance, the Terrans will be required to join the war (unless this has been changed in GalCiv 2).

It's only an act of war against the humans if they own the freighter that's attacked. If the freighter's Torian, the Drengin are interfering with your trade (you can't buy goods that never arrive), but they're not destroying any human ships or killing human civilians.

I think the biggest difficulty would be making it so the rest of the game would display in any meaningful way. A list of events isn't that compelling, actually watching each civ do everything their doing isn't practical or desirable, just showing battles leaves too many gaps in the story, etc. I guess you could set up a short blurb in your surrender screen that says something like, 'After x more years, the y civilization finally removed all opposition,

Still I wander why they put that as a diplomic action even though if you know your going to lose anyway. You could just quit and start another game and or load a presaved game. Some people like to play their games through to the end, even if they lose. Also, if you're playing on the Multiverse, you still get points for lost games, but the game

I'll probably use different themes for different games -- TV/movie characters, musicians, stuff like that. I am looking forward to crushing all opposition with my mighty Drengin fleet named after romance novelists, though.

I have a few ideas, something like a Jules Verne vision of space would be something special, but I'm waiting to see how well I could achieve them, and of course I want to enjoy the real game first! That'd be pretty cool -- the Drengin Exterminator-class Battle Zeppelin. Aw, yeah.

Just had a thought I'd throw out to the group... I'm not sure how practical this would be, but I thought it'd be nice to have a comments field available on the submit to metaverse page where we could have a couple hundred words to add any unique details about that game that others could read from the player's profile page. Things like strategies that worked really well (or not) or something really lucky that happened, etc. Or just bragging about crushing the galaxy under your jackboot.<

I got a surrender from the last Yor planet this weekend. I'd already gotten the 'cultural victory in a year' warning and had my entire fleet heading towards them to beat 'em down before it happened, which may have pushed the surrender button. And they weren't that bright... ;) The Kid
