I too think I've seen higher damage than my int on occasion (not sure), but the statistics are not right at all, of that I have become quite convinced. Unless each shard is supposed to only give a hard-to-measure increase (5-10% or something) I don't think my experiences can be written off as bad luck on my part.

After a few attempts at fixing this by modding the xml files I've discovered this. It seems like the relevant lines in the CoreSpells_xxx_tactical.xml files are lines like these (here from fire dart): Unit DefendableDamage <![CDATA[[Unit
Brad has mentioned it numerous times. Quick search found this post for instance.
Yes, but my test was conducted agains critters with 0 defense. If the maximum damage is supposed to be doubled by controlling a shard, then the average damage would also be doubled. It was not. It simply seems to me that shards are not having any effect, at least that's the case for inferno, lightning bolt and chain lightning (I think those were the lightning names), which are the spells I've checked.
I noticed that I was not doing as much damage with my magic as I was supposed to, so I did a quick test. It's pretty simple, I attacked a group of 3 spiders (each had 0 defense) using the fire spell Infernal. I did this both before and after constructing on a fire shard, and I did it several times (more than 10 damage rolls) to get decent statistics. My sovereign had 15 intelligence. The results were: Without shard: Average damage = 8.6 With one fire shard: Average damage = 7.
Hello. So I am enjoying the game, but since I find that I have to crank the difficulty setting up to hard or extreme before the AI really puts up a fight, I'd like to know precisely what kind of bonuses the AI gets at the higher settings. Usually in Stardock games it seems like normal difficulty corresponds to everything being equal between AI and human. Initially I assumed it was a simple economic boost, and perhaps a research boost and stuff like that. But recently I encountered som
Alot of good points there, good post. It presents a good list where most of my little annoyances are also covered. I do have faith though that with all the love Elemental will be getting these things will be taken care of.
Alt-tabbing working properly is a pretty big issue. I usually have the particular game I'm playing minimized through the entire day without ever restarting it between gaming sessions. Sometimes I even have more than one game open at a time. Not being able to alt-tab is a major inconvenience, unless the game starts up in like a second or two (and loads a game similarly fast).
30" 2560x1600, and I would like to upgrade if there was anything bigger with higher resolution available at a "reasonable" price. I hope my next monitor will be something like a 40", 10 MP curved screen [e digicons][/e] . If someone would just get around to making one of those...
How strange. I'd think that either x64 integration had been developed (in which case the system requirements should reflect the fact), or not, in which case it shouldn't work at all. I'm still a little concerned about unknown problems that could arise if it isn't really designed for Vista x64, but perhaps it is worth a try. Thanks for your replies :)
I see that the system requirements still explicitly state 32-bit only: "Windows XP (32-bit) or Vista (32-bit)". I'd just like to check if this still is correct, or if the system requirements just haven't been updated?
Malice nerfed? Noooooooo... :SNIFF!:
Most likely Pirates of the Burning Sea (a MMORPG).
Since you have a few RPGs on your list, one glaring omission (at least to me since I'm a fan) is Gothic 2 (with the Night of the Raven expansion pack), which is a first person perspective RPG like Morrowind and Oblivion. The game is more story driven than Morrowind/Oblivion, but since you also liked the D&D games (Baldur's gate, NWN) I'm guessing you're not adverse to a prominent storyline. I see that you want both openendedness, which Gothic 2 sadly does not have. Personally I like Got
The bottom line for me is if I'm selling games, I would definitely want to err on the side of caution and protect my product.
But wouldn't you agree that it's just as valid to err on the side of caution and not annoy your customers with invasive copy protection? IMO it creates a much better environment if companies are more concerned with making their customers happy than they are with trying to foil the pirates, especially since (to date) no one has been able to keep a g
Indeed, to me, the simplest solution, if one is concerned enough with the copy protection (which in certain cases is entirely reasonable), is to buy the game and then get the pirated version.
And if your local mechanic shoves a but plug up your *** everytime you have your car in for repair, the simplest solution is to remove the but plug after you leave. Most would probably opt to take their business elsewhere though ;p I doubt I'll be buying Spore if this is in
What I find works very well is 25% damage propagation (mothership ability) + 2 radiance battleships using their most powerfull ability (the one you get at level 5 or 6). With that combo it seems like all enemy frigates within the 25% damage propagation will be pretty close to dead, and as long as you have a few heavy cruisers the rest of the fleet will soon follow. At least this works extremely well against massive AI fleets. But perhaps humans are more carefull not to expose their who
I wish Stardock all the best, and I'm looking forward to trying Demigod. In the gaming market you've gone from being burned by bad publishers, to now become one of the best publishers and developers around. Kudos :CONGRAT:
Higher resolution is (pretty much) always better. I game play at 2560x1600 (30" screen), and I've yet to find it "too big" in any game. However since you're using a CRT display it may be that you will be limited by the maximum refresh frequency your display can handle. Personally I find that I need at least 75 Hz, and preferably more. But some can actually stand it as low as 60 Hz. Since you have a 8800 GTX you should be able to play at as high a resolution as you want, so as l
Could anyone who have tried beta 5 please explain how the updated economics works? What does "Mo Money" mean?
If the relationship is as simple as that then armour seems a little redundant doesn't it? If it just corresponds to an increase in effective HP, why not just give the ship more HP instead of more armour? The "increase armour" techs might as well be "increase HP" techs, ships with high base armour could just have higher base HP and so on.
I also hope that the AI is improved, and perhaps that the option of a cheating AI would be implemented. Not everyone want's to play PvP multiplayer, personally I almost never play any multiplayer at all, except for the occational coop with friends. It would however be possible for you and your friends to mod a race that you don't use to have lower cost ships or some other advantage. It's a bit tedious to edit all the files, but it could hold you over for the time being. Persona
Seems I failed to notice the armour type listings in the manual, so now I at least know which ships have what kind of armour, but I still can't see any listing of what weapons/which ships are good against these armour types.
There are different armour types?! Why in the world isn't this listed in the game? Anyone feel like writing a short guide to this stuff? Do different weapons have different attributes against different armour, or is it ship dependent (for instance, is laser always an anti-light armour weapon, or does it depend on what ship the laser is equipped to)?
I think somewhere in this thread there was a suggestion for a "sitting duck" modifier for siege frigates, which I think sounds like a pretty interesting idea. The siege frigate could be left as is, but when it's actively bombarding a planet it could have a +100% damage modifier or something. That way it won't be too weak to have it be a part of the main fleet, yet it won't be feasible to nuke a planet before the defences are mostly neutralized. While I haven't really had much problem wi
