How about trash heaps at the edge of cities (the older the bigger), abandoned roads and buildings that slowly are taken back by nature, mine tailings that may be recycled one day, and growing monster pack-rat middens (the older the more loot)? I would love a game mechanism to mark the passage of time other than just through growth and conquest. Just imagine your sovereign living long enough to one day send a scout (archeologist?) to that old mine, city ruin, monster den, etc. that was

Elemenal does a CTD on the load screen: Vista 64 bit, clean install of latest Beta, deleted the Documents\My Games\Elemental folder from the previous install. debug.err http://pastebin.com/m4958c35f After several failed game starts, the game did run but then I had a CTD after clicking on the Play button (final game configuration step): debug.err http://pastebin.com/m438ab5aa I really can't tell why the game sometimes works. The last time I tried it didn't have

I updated elemental to Beta 1a but the game hanged on the load screen. Just to be safe, I uninstalled Elemental and deleted the "Documents\My Games\Elemental" folder (required one reboot) and re-insatlled the game. On start up, the fresh install did a crash to desktop (CTD) on the loading screen (not the the pixelated splash screen). Here is my debug.err http://pastebin.com/m73c17591 . The second time around, the game booted u

Thanks scottrycroft - setting the mipmap levels to 1 removed the cloth-map artifacts! One tile did flip to an 'undiscovered' look on my town for one round but otherwise it's all pretty. Off course, the game loading issues remain but that could be just a missing feature.

The following glitches also happen on my desktop machine (Vista 64bit, I7, GeForce GTX 275) when reloading a saved game. Restarting Elemental and starting a new game makes all glitches go away. Missing figure pedestal Missing city graphics in world view and city editing mode Missing goodies graphics I guess only the cloth map artifacts (striping, tiling, obscuring, etc.) may be due to a driver/graphics card related bug.

I build a 64bit Vista, Intel I7 machine just so that I can play on gigantic maps. Maybe my wife will join me in a game again. She used to quit once the map was explored in Civ 4 - exploration was all she cared about. :) I hope the 64bit support will be ready by the time the game is released next year.

I vote for Camp #3! I like its promise of trading-in micromanagement for emergent patterns that I could influence strategically (this might be really fun from mid game on). Trade could also be encouraged by deriving some - perhaps late game - bonuses from resource diversity: - Higher food diversity could attract population (or heroes?) from less divers areas. - Higher precious stones and metals diversity could make your sword and armor prettier. ;)

I love the idea of complex resource and economic management (lots of emergent behavior, please!) but would it be fun to play? A friend and I had a lot of fun conceptualizing a web-based city management game with renewable & non-renewable resources, a complex economy (multiple markets, cartels, positive/negative externalities, etc.), and with global impacts. We soon realized that the really cool resource and economic models we came up with could very quickly translate into much wor

Well - it looks like there is a real incompatibility of the GalCiv II graphical engine and the mobile version of the ATI X1600 video card. Several posters could reproduce the reboot/overheating problem. Non of the games I play (now including Fallout 3) show that behavior but it could be a design or driver flaw of the video card. Now, I really hope that the Elemental: War of Magic graphical engine will be compatible with ATI X1600 video cards. That, or I have to convince

I experience crashes to reboot every time I am playing GalCiv 2 with or without Dark Avatar on my MacBook Pro running Windows XP SP2 natively. Crashes to reboot occur inevitable but I can play longer if the laptop is cooler and the video settings are set lower. Crashes (Windows freezes, the reboots) occur between ca. 3 to 30 minutes of running GalCiv 2. Every time I update GalCiv 2 (1.8a now), I hope the crash bug will be fixed but no luck so far. Off course, it could be a

I am running GalCiv II on a MacBook Pro with the ATI driver supplied by Apple. The laptop display is set to 1400*1050 at 32 bit. There are about 5 "Default Monitor" settings to choose from. The following games work without a hitch even set to high quality (including 32 bit when available): Fallout 1 & 2, Homeworld (not HW2 though), Civ4, Oblivion, Titan Quest, and Supreme Commander. I guess I am dating myself <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/Smile.gif" bord

kryo, thank you for looking into my problem. I should have thought of searching for the error log and posting it in the first place. My guess is, it is a video setting problem. GalCiv II-DO freezes with a black screen on start up on my MacBook Pro. I am running XP on the latest Boot Camp beta and never had problems with any of my other games. I have reinstalled GalCiv II twice without luck. Does anybody else run the game on Boot Camp?
