clwoods, are you saying that you un-installed Norton's without using the removal tool, just a un-install and you were able to get the free version of AVG? Did you have the Norton's firewall installed also? There is a component that they installed using Norton's System Works update called Common Client, I think it ties these two programs together, I'm not sure, but that is what I think it does. This turned out to be the one program that gave me the most

If I was confident enough about setting it up myself I would try it, but unfortunately I am not. I heard when you un-install Norton's not all of it un-installs and causes problems. Therefore I will probably go the cheapest route and just pay for the new definitions. Otherwise I would have to take it into a shop and have them take it out and put the newest one on. I haven't the slightest idea about what ports to block on the firewall anyway. DesktopX i

Citizen Absntmind, The script fixed mine and boy was I thankful for the wisdom of Wizop Corky O and yrag, I am self taught and wouldn't know how to reformat. It probably would have cost me a few hundred to get it fixed. I have the script in 5 different places, and on another drive. Soooo yes I did go back and try DesktopX, but it should come with a warning until the problem is fixed. But I couldn't leave well enough alone, I had to try a desktop t

Thanks again guys, what a day.... I will try again tomorrow. When OneButtonCheckup runs again next friday and comes up with registry errors that are the same should I tell it not to fix? Of the 5 errors in registry two were lines of code and the other three said desktopX. So I am almost positive it was desktop X. I can't understand why it would turn off the viru

Developer yrag, The files were deleted by Norton's AV and I deleted the backup from the log. But I copied the description on each of the png.files. Some were in a folder I named WinCustomize that was in my Stardock\ObjectDock\folder, and some were on my F disk in another folder. I have scanned after that and got a clean scan. The only thing I don't understand is I have no file on my F disk named Stardock. I just use it for storage. Let me jus

KarmaGirl, Check out post #1 Developer yrag's link. I don't us MSM Messenger or have Office XP, these were png.files that have been in my ObjectDesktop folder for months and Norton's just discovered it Feb.06, 2005. I have scanned this computer many times and nothing was ever found until Saturday. I have Norton System Works 2003, current subscription renewed with the latest updates. Some of them were in zip files, Norton scans them also. Obviously

Just did a virus scan with Norton's AV on Sat. Feb 12th with updated virus definitions from Feb.09. Wanted to let you know they found 20 virus in png. files that were in my Stardock\ObjectDock\WinCustomize folder. This virus was just discovered by Symantec on Feb.06, 2005 . It is called Bloodhund.Exploit.24, I do a scan about every two weeks and these png files have been on this computer for at least 9 months. I can't remember the last time I downloade

I bought the subscription in December when you needed help with the servers, but I don't use the Web Browser because I like coming to the site instead. Won't I be able to do that anymore? I try to support WinCustomize by buying everything I can but I don't like the browser it cuts off much of my screen. Can't I just continue with my account cross referenced?

My condolences also jarget, we just lost my Mother-In-Law last week. The Family stayed by her side night and day so she would not die alone. It took three days but we were there. My Mother died suddenly 7 months ago, so I know the profound loss you are feeling. I take refuge in the thought that I will see them again and hope you can also. They were both very much loved.

Thanks for the warning, I probably would of opened it being it was from Stardock, that is if Norton didn't catch it. This should be in the news section or a sticky.
