For me, these feelings were magnified by the fact that SCII was playing this awesome music over the PC speaker which was, until then, only beeping, in most games (remember King's Quest V (1990), Civilization (1991), Dune II (1992)). OK. Various tonalities and tempo, but beeps nonetheless.
Oh man that's unfortunate. I had an Adlib sound card at the time (before the Soundbla
I can't tell you how many times I've wished [insert game name here] would let me keep track of where I've been and what I've seen via a map feature like this one.
I'm sure there are a lot of us out there that pined for this feature time and time again, which I think is more of a utility than a gameplay enhancer.
Would it be possible to have some regions we do not have a map for? We'd have a map of the known space and beyond that... we'd need to explore.
Un-mapped territory with completely unknown aliens and anomalies is a great idea. Space should be vast and bizarre, always offering up something new, whether its relevant to the story or not.
This brings up an interesting point though - were you a hardcore player of SCII, Myst, etc., grabbing your notepad to religiously catalogue your adventures.... because you WANTED TO? Or because you had no other option?
Well both, I wanted to take notes but had no place to do it in-game...
In my opinion SC2 (maingame) was 40% conversations|interaction with aliens, 40% exploration and 20% - combat. Do you think that this ratio is correct? Should it remain the same in SCR?
I would like see those ratios become more even in SCR, that is, combat becoming more relevant to the game as much as, if not more than, alien interaction and exploration. And I only say this assuming that the number of aliens and their associated quests are pre-determined and
This is something we are discussing internally and deciding what tools to develop for everyone. There is a certain "hardcore" element that does involve grabbing a notepad and writing these types of notes down for yourself. Many RPG games from the time (Planet's Edge) for example included notepads in the boxes for you to take these types of notes. By the same token people no longer keep maps in their cars anymore and are more accustomed to
^ I'd prefer the game marked visited planets for me.
I don't think annotation and marking visited planets are mutually exclusive... the use case I'm thinking of is if you found a planet with great resources but didn't yet have the technology to harvest/survive on the surface, so you'd want to make a note for yourself.
Vaelzad , out of curiosity, how many Founders does Stardock plan on having all together?
We're not doing conjectures here (and in most threads); we're making suggestions and giving input (i.e. doing our job as Founders).
Agreed. Stardock setup the Founders program and this forum for us to talk about SC and share ideas, regardless if they make it to the game or not. While only a few of the ideas we mention will likely make it to the game, all of the ideas we don't talk about w
I'd love to see an annotation feature for the starmap, so that players can keep their own notes inside the game for stars and planets.
SCR - Star Control Reboot
There's one flaw in SC2 that's always bugged me that I hope doesn't reappear in the SC reboot. That is, if you've won a battle by the skin of your teeth and are barely alive, remove all the damage-causing elements from the arena immediately. There were so many times where I inadvertently bumped into the planet because I couldn't see it coming because the post-combat view was centered on your ship... and I died anyway. Yeah incremental bonuses by number are boring. In this genre of action game I'd like to see loot that does something to gameplay but isn't overly OP'd. ie, Exceptional Loot - modules that change the flight pattern and/or behavior of weapons fire (zig-zag, speed, kinetic push-back, etc) - ship captains - intact weapons (that can be jury-rigged but not de-engineered) Regular Loot - minerals/mat
It would be cool if there was something like the 'Orion' planet from the Master of Orion games, where you could find a unique ship to add to your fleet or some ancient technology, guarded by a massive precursor space guardian that you must defeat before you can even orbit.
The devs have said that they're working on making the economy more meaningful at all stages of the game (the SC2 end-game was pretty much economy agnostic). I can imagine that extending from a single economic entity "resource unit" to a more varied approach could factor in here
Yeah combat in SC2 became meaningless and monotonous late in the game. After you'd acquired all possible techs and allied with everyone you were usually s
So I gotta put this out there, as I found the original SC post-combat gains lacking, which was essentially just credits to spend. Varied loot is what would compel me to explore dangerous areas space! I'd want to fight as much as possible and bring home a nice big haul of stuff including (ship) equipment, personnel, minerals/materials for construction, etc. Maybe even intel on enemy location, unique planets, research, missions as well. I'd like to see varied r
There probably should be some mechanic where some technologies/weapons that are solely available on fleet ships are more effective against specific foes, ie some races are predisposed towards killing others, and those technologies/weapons cannot be obtained/used in any other way other from your fleet ships. So while you command ship could potentially be very powerful and versatile, it could never be as effective as other ships in various circumstances.
I'd get a physical copy just for a large beautiful space map. That was one of the best things of SC2, planning your next destination on nice big chart pinned to your wall.
Upvote for co-op campaign.
Thanks for me granting me Founder status, Stardock. Happy to be aboard!!
Do you think their QA will pass a slightly phallic rocket ship with guns at the tip?
I would actually like it if the main ship never became so powerful that you always used it. When I played the original I intentionally avoided using the main ship because it was so powerful. One of my favorite aspects of the adventure game in SC2 was the nemesis (rock, paper, scissors) balance that had you carrying a good mix of ships to use the right one against the right opponent... and losing a ship meant having a hard time against cert
