Assuming your Mac supports OS X (G3 systems and higher) then install it and buy a 2 button mouse. I'm using a cordless Logitech Trackman Wheel with my G4... No drivers needed. Wheel works nicely, too... never realized how much I'd use the wheel until I actually got it. As a nice bonus, the 2nd mouse button also functions with many OS9 apps when running under "Classic" mode in OS X.

I prefer Paint Shop Pro on Windows and a combo of Photopaint and Painter 7 on the Mac. I have Photoshop 6 but have never been real thrilled with the layout of it. It's powerful but seemingly clumsy when trying to perform certain tasks, IMO.

That doesn't quite hold up mormegil, IMO... Macs still use the same electricity for fuel as PC's do... and they DO still drive on the same roads - same internet, can save to the same file formats as Windows, can be networked together, etc... Hell, they even used my UIS file that plainly and politely asked for credit right at the very top of the file and they left that text in there while totally ignoring it. Having 10 times more software in a given category on Windows vs the mac doesn't always mean a whole heck of a lot if 95% are junk and all you really need are 1 or 2 quality apps to choose from... I agree, paxx. I'd also like to know when people are including my stuff in a suite. I'd prefer they not include anything without asking first. Another one of the issues I have is that they might be including links to old or outdated versions of themes when newer ones are available elsewhere.
I hear a lot of people talk about a 'lack of apps' where the mac is concerned but frankly I'm just not feeling it here at all. I suppose if I had some *very* specific needs or was a heavy gamer then it might be a problem but I haven't had any trouble finding any tool I need for the job. I've certainly felt it quite a bit in the past on other OS's like NeXT and OS/2 and a very brief - blink of an eye - flirtation with Linux...but not on the mac now. Linux is really one OS that I just don't see catching on where the general desktop user is concerned. It's got too many shortcomings and not enough mature apps of it's own. Having solid support for Windows apps, assuming it ever happened, might give it a momentary surge but I think that might do more harm than good in the long run. Lancer, are you familiar with WindowBlinds and other Stardock products, let alone do you have any first hand experience with OS X beyond screenshots?? I think it's just a tad silly to compare WB to OS X and expect a parity between the feature set of each. WB is a cosmetic and sometimes productivity enhancement to the Windows OS and OS X is a completely different operating system. Comparing WB to something like Kaleidoscope might be fine, but there's no release planned for X , sadly.<br

There's two features I'd still like to see in WB, actually... 1)The ability to relocate the scrollbars and scrollbar buttons. 2) The ability to specify scrollbar size in the UIS. I was fiddling with my NeXT/OPENSTEP skins on XP the other day and for some reason I had to jump through some real hoops to get the scrollbar size to stick while running WB 3.1.
I'm very pleased with the specs on the new iMac. The inclusion of the G4 rather than the aging G3 makes this a much more compelling machine, IMO. I'm still undecided on the base design but overall it's seems pretty nifty. I just might pick one of those mid-priced puppies up within the next 6 months depending on the changes to the Power Mac line-up at the time. Has anyone tried Painter 7 for Windows? I use this under Mac OS X now and wouldn't trade it for anything else. I have no idea how the Win version stacks up, though. I'm wondering if Corel hasn't reduced it's efforts in the area of Photopaint 10 (which I also find lacking under OS X) in order to put all it's eggs under the Painter 7 basket. P7 might be overkill for those used to Photpaint.
I think it's perfectly acceptable to have this kind of news on the site. After all, many graphic artists do use Macs. I use a G4 90% of the day in fact. Right now, I'm using Corel Photo-Paint 10 and Painter 7 for OS X to update most of my skins and testing them on Windows 2000 running under Virtual PC.
