\ Most of the Steam games I own I do not need Steam running. I purchased them through Steam and downloaded and registered it. I then close Steam and run the exe direct from the Steamapps folder. I do NOT need Steam to play. The only ones that do are where the Publisher has elected for run-time authentication (still rare thankfully). So your comment of "I need Steam to play my game NO MATTER WHAT" is fals

I liked the demo enough to buy it even though it requires Steam (though that probably wouldn't have happend if I had to pay the full $50- I got it for $35).

I was hoping to see some newly announced games that will be hitting the service rather than games we all likely knew we were coming. I really wish Impulse could get some more support from publishers.

As far as companies outgrowing industrial parks with nowhere to grow....I've got nothing. :P It's a bit hard to help because you

I have no idea why the iPad is so hyped. I can't honestly think of HOW I'm supposed to use the device. Laying it flat on a table would suck (you'd have to hunch over). Even if it was propped up with something, then you wouldn't be able to type efficiently (making it an oversized iPod Touch...and I already have an iPhone). You could hold it like a clipboard, but then typing is completely inefficient. I suppose it might work this way if it had perfect handwriting recognition, but I'm do

Well Tova7, you might be right with that last post, but let me assure you that the education is far better in the US than in China. If you think US students are trained to be innovative enough, you haven't seen anything. I have students who can't properly form groups to work in, let alone create an original idea. [e digicons]:omg:[/e] Anyway, to actually stay on topic, I'd ask this question- is your city looking to draw in already established companies or looking to fos

I could care less. I played Titan Quest+ Immortal Throne and that's enough point and click RPG I need for years. For my dungeon crawling RPG needs, Demon's Souls is the new gold standard for me.

I tried it out. The first thing worth noting is that it is a beta, so I had a few times where it would lock up for 10 seconds or more. And they got rid of the mini-games list, which is a real bummer to me. The good news is that it seems to be more efficient- it seems to use less resources if the game has been launched at least one time already. And it launches into the game faster as well (again, if previously been launched by the client). I don't care for the actual U

I saw that listed for the previous update (pre-Diplomacy), but not the announcement thread Brad made last week. Will that be true for EVERY update that this game recieves? Here's the thread I saw: http://frogboy.impulsedriven.net/article/376266/Sins_of_a_Solar_Empire_Trinity_updated

Well I finally got around to playing Sins again after the update and now the game crashes when I load my savegame (saved on Diplomacy 1.0). If I want to start a new game, it'll work fine, but the save won't load to save my life. Is this a known issue/intended? I should add that the only other thing I did was change my name in the game from "NewPlayer" to something else.

If the two are evenly priced, is there any reason to choose Steam? I can't think of one. The big difference will be- do you want to be forced to use the Steam client to launch a game (and it's slower to launch at that). If you're so concerned about the Steam community, you can just the Steam overlay on your Impulse purchased game without issue. And, the Steam client uses less memory if it's on a non-Steam game than a Steam one. I'd buy it from Impulse.
So wait- if you buy a retail copy of the game, you can register it on Impulse and have it as a downloadable title?Yes.
Awesome. Will purchase as soon as I'm done typing this message...which is now...as soon as I write the period. Period. Curious- does GalCiv2 work this way as well?
Unfortunately the vanilla base game has been pulled in favor of Trinity. You may still be able to find just the base game available at retail, which can then be registered within Impulse for download/updates.
So wait- if you buy a retail copy of the game, you can register it on Impulse and have it as a downloadable title? Or did you just mean the updates? I'm looking at 4-pack of games (GalCiv 2 Ultimate, Darkstar One, SoaSE

Man I really want to buy this but I just can't justify it at $40. I'm not a big RTS gamer (read: I'm utterly terrible) and while I did enjoy the demo, I don't feel confident enough to buy an RTS at such a price. I'm sure that it has $40 worth of cntent at least, but I have to sit this one out until a price drop/sale comes.
If Valve started doing this en masse, they would go out of business overnight. They have a reputation to maintain if they want to keep their customers. I find this exceedingly improbable. Go put a tinfoil hat on. You really have the gift of hyperbole. It's not a question of whether you can find other means or not. STEAM is wonderful because it conveniently does all of the aforementioned things that you'd have to look around f

Here's a question- is Civ 4 a big enough upgrade to justify purchasing it since I already have Civilization 3? I love the series, but I don't like wasting money unless it's a significant upgrade from what I've currently got.

Even if you accidentlly added an extra zero, that would still mean you played for roughly 5.5 hours every day since release. Call me skeptical. I seriously can't believe people use the expression

I don't own the game (yet), but I"d say that removing any rewards from killing the AI would be unwise. It could just make players attempt to avoid the AI bot- why risk losing health? I'd suggest around the rate of 1/3 the XP/gold of killing a human player. It would make the reward high enough to encourage players to still take out the AI demigod but not so high that it winds up being farmed for XP. Perhaps a little higher if you made AI demigods level up faster/get more gold, so while
