you make a big error if you compair the launche of demigod with the launch of WoW first of all: Blizzard. the anme speaks for himselfs. Starcraft Diablo Warcraft, ofc you put much trust in this company. second thing: wow had not a problem with the netcode the match making and players disconnecting port forwording and so ON the servers where just to weak to handle all the players. THAT is a big difference.<br
strict equality is not a desirable state of the game, the differences make things interesting. its possible than some adjustments should be made but i think its too early to tell. Maybe fireball needs a longer range or a shorter cast time. maybe Spit should have its mana cost increased a little or its damage decreased a little. i'm not willing to make a judgment about it yet. for the moment i say it should be left alone pending more evidence.<br
I disagree polis59. He brings up a good point. Why is the most damaging long ranged spell on a melee character?
It's not exactly *long* ranged. Fireball still has a longer range, as does almost all of Regulus's abilities. The problem is, played well the Unclean Beast is so fast and that he can afford to take the hit, close the gap, Spit, and run. I know that he's meant to be a harassing DG and so that's as it should be...bu
You are correct on most of the points you brought up. While there are ways to make UB an extremely powerful character, you can totally screw up on some points and never be able to come back.
Personally, I have found that as long as you max out Spit and Inner Beast, with a point in Grasp...you've got 75% of the Unclean Beast's potential unlocked right there. Any other choice in point distribution comes down to playstyle. :)
This post honestly sounds like a TB player crying about UB. UB is meant to be a harassing character. If you over extend yourself, you are screwed. Playing against a good rook, Oak or Sedna I usualy get squashed. If any other character wants to sit and melee me they are going to die. You have to learn the strong points of your character.
Sorry, no. I play the Unclean Beast almost exclusively, and I
I may be wrong here...have only played Torchbearer once...but does he not have to max out the Fireball line to get a 1050, slowish casting fireball? Unclean Beast to me (I have played him in all but 1 custom game this weekend...and that was the only game my team lost) seems grossly overpowered compared to a DG whose sole purpose seems to be damage. At rank 3 of Venomous Spit, I am doing..what, 1050 or 1500 damage? I'm already matching or outdamaging the TB who should normally be a ranged
Ah, the Unclean Beast. My bread and butter. :) The Unclean Beast is all about harassing ! He cannot really tank damage for beans; he's made to finish off wounded demigods and waves of creeps. When I'm on playing the UB, I am roaming the map taking back flags. If I see an enemy DG or two fighting a teammate, I will usually come in, Spit on whoever my teammate is fighting, and move out- but not far. I circle around, spit, and if I see the chance for a kill I move in and melee. I
As an UB I've never had trouble taking Rooks on 1v1. Even in early levels.
Agreed. Speed boots + Swift Anklet + Venomous Spit = Rook losing HP and barely landing any hits on you. With that setup, by the time his windup is done you're already out of range.
Personally, I disagree on Ooze but that is just my playstyle. Early on, UB can't take much of a beating (well..he can't later either but I digress). ANYTHING that reduces my HP is verboten to me. I handle UB like an Apache attack chopper; speed, speed, speed, hide in the fog or out of range...when I see a wounded DG, an undefended flag or a mass of creeps with no DG around I unmask, swoop in to hoover up the XP or get the DG kill, and retreat. UB's main assets to me are his
I have to admit, as it stands right now the game's multiplayer is unplayable. I've done all the requisite port forwarding and managed to get into exactly 1 game so far. Mind you, that game was absolutely glorious! The downside? I want more, and Demigod's multiplayer matchup/connection system is atrocious. Really. It makes connecting to games a chore, a time consuming chore no less. Most of the people I have spoken to when waiting for others to connect have reported exact
Ok, to be clear; I'm not talking lag, or choppiness, or framerate drop. The grunts/minions in the game are fine. The lighting effects on the towers are fine. But my Demigod is moving as if he were in one of those slo-mo capture scenes from the Matrix!! I played in the beta and everything was fine. I played yesterday night- before today's update -and everything was fine. Frames per second is fine. But when my Unclean Beast moves, even when wearing the Boots of speed, he (and he AL
Awesome!! There was a late night flood of people trying to play around 10-11 PM EST yesterday, and I got into 2-3 games...after waiting for almost 3 minutes on the "Connecting to players..." screen. Two of those games just died out before they started (waiting too long for people to fill slots, probably loading forever like I was), and in the 3rd game (a 3v3) 2 of the players just disconnected or got dropped, not sure which. But while it was going on, it was a frenetic
Nevermind that Stardock's games are beyond cool (I only owned Sins of a Solar Empire before now), but there is just something about the company as a whole that reeks of trustworthiness. To be honest, the copy protection thing for me isn't really an issue. What I appreciate is the quality of the games and the knowledge that Stardock will support a game long after it's released (Sins is another good example). Kudos Stardock. You're a classy company, and I'm a loyal customer who wil
I bought the pre-order today, about 10 hours ago...have maybe 10 games played already (I am going to freaking LOVE this thing when it ships!!!) and against the Hard AI, I usually win in about 15-20 minutes now. That's playing with Regulus and the Rook. With Sedna, it took almost 45 minutes (not really a fan of the General style of Demigod), and with Oak about 30. Queen of Thorns took forever, and even with so little playtime I can see why more people aren't fans of her. I haven't tried U
I pre-ordered today and have been playing AI games to get a feel for the Demigods and their abilities. Once I played a game or two with Regulus, my first thought was, "Ok, this guy is way too poweful." -His firing rate and range against structures is just nasty....his damage is durned good versus Demigods....his splash damage with ANgelic Fury is lethal to portal troops, his mines are a pain to deal with...and with a set of bonus +10% movement booties, and a good solid chestpiece
So here we have this game with an immense scope, great technologies to research, lots of shiptypes and structures to be built and Capital ships with varied and unique abilities. But in almost every replay that I have watched, I am seeing a distrubing trend where players ignorie a lot of these assets. Players seem to focus on playing the smallest map they can find. They churn out tons of 1 or 2 shiptypes. There are threads out begging for options to speed up multipl
A timely thread, as I have a question about wormholes. First time I saw one yesterday, and I experienced the AI-jumps-into-it-and-out behavior...with my huge fleet parked there no less. It wound up getting picked off ship by ship. I *tried* following the AI through but my fleet would not jump. I tried moving my fleet onto it...right and left clicking on it...nada. How does one chase the enemy to his doom? :)
I know that the 1.04 patch hasn't been out too too long, but I'm seeing a real dearth of replays since that patch. Does anyone have a link to a nice big pile of 1.04 replays? :D
Very enjoyable game to watch! I'm just getting my feet wet with Sins and have only played TEC so far, but it's nice to see that although other races have the same ships (mirrored, i.e. each has a Drone cruiser, a long-range frig etc..), the capital ship "special abilities" can tip the game one way or the other. A Kol's shield ability is useful, but that mothership's Malice...ouch. Just nasty. Would take a lot of brain wracking to figure out how to beat a combination of a hugle fleet of
I don't think Sins is the sort of game that was meant to be played at "Ultra Fast" so that you can start and end a typical game in under 10-15 minutes, as is the case with most spastic, epilepsy-inducing "He who clicks fastest wins" RTS games. If it were, I would not have purchased it. I have Warhammer, Company of Heroes, and (soon) Starcraft 2 for that particular little urge. And really, I find them very different (and in many ways, very inferior) to Sins. Even SC2 won't suck up as muc
I've stayed up waaaaay tooo late the last few nights (3am), so tonight I've got to get to bed earlier.
Yesterday at midnight (well, earlier today) I started my 2nd full game since "getting" how to play Sins. I could have gone to bed at any point but wound up hiting the hay at 6 AM! :D I'm still quite noobish, but I found a tremendous difference between my first 1.03 patch Easy AI opponent on a small map, and a 1.04 patch Normal AI. The normal AI was sending mass
Actually, once I did a bit of messing around and took my time, I got the picture and one my 1st game...against an easy AI of course lol. I can appreciate now the incredible design effort that went into the interface in this game. It's so much easier than your reguler RTS; I can now queue up structures and ships all from the same part of the interface; click on planet; build; enjoy! The only thing lacking, in my opinion, was a foldout card with the technology trees printed for e
I'm very serious. Sorry, but I just don't have a damned clue of what's going on about 90% of the time. Guess I'm just dumb. :NOTSURE:
So...I have played thru the tutorials. I have read the manual from front to back. And yet sadly, I have no idea what I am doing in this game, and the shine is already fading for me. I *see* the potential fun of the gameplay here, it's truly promising...but it seems buried under masses of data that has no logical link from one part to the next. After 45 minutes of play in a typical game, I have built my resource structures at home planet, sent out a scout, built my capital ship
