Well said Coelocanth (for both of your posts). I want to make some kind of ill-fitting satirical argument about Toyota's sensible commercial decision to re-engineer all their excellent land vehicles to offer yellow submarine variants - product lines that would no doubt be hugely popular with the privately-owned coloured-submersible market - but I'll refrain. :)

master of orion 2 & master of magic. oh, and ufo: enemy unknown. The hints that Stardock is working on a strategy game with partial MoM inspiration makes me oh so excited.
Yay for griefers. Yayyy. Sounds like the main lobby just needs some moderation, a report mechanism and serial bans.
I enjoy pirates. Ideally there would also be space-vikings. Yarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
I've been using steam for about 6 months now (since obtaining a decent net connection) after buying orange box, and I can't say I've had any problems with it at all. That said, I've been using it almost exclusively to play Team Fortress 2 multiplayer, so I don't share some of the gripes that some people have relating to phone-home-for-singleplayer (although, as a number of folks have pointed out, you can put steam into offline mode to disable this, so it's hardly the end of the world).
I'm another Aussie and a big fan of digital distribution. Sins downloaded in about an hour or so a few months back when I bought it, and generally found the whole procedure hassle free.
@Novaburst: "the 4x MoMish spiritual successor" really? Stardock are working on one? Oh my oh my oh my oh my.
1) toggle button, marked with infinity symbol. bottom of screen, right of center. 2) in other races there are sometimes horses (esp. in horse races), whilst in sins there are rarely even ponies.
Perhaps if replays contained periodic autosaves, these could be used as "chapters" that you could skip forward or back between, and then simulate the game forwards. Of course I dunno how practical this would be to implement.
"Anybody actually able to see what's in the big white box in the OP?" if you use your magical text selector it highlights and is visible. at least with firefox/windows
I for one would like a three-legged race.
Some of the voices are good, but only in a so-bad-that-its-funny kinda way.
The T4 units, on the other hand, are generally countered by scouting (and bombing), not letting the enemy announce their presence. If they come in range of your defensive line, your defenses are gonna get hurt, and bad. Unless its one of the sucky T4's, like the soul reaper
No idea if this kind of thing still works, but back in the day I recall a mate of mine - who was pretty heavily into the supcom 1v1 ladder - relating someone's tactic of rush building a soul reaper a
@Tal27. Bahahahhaa. Everything is so much clearer now, thank you.
The only game I've played that made me experience some kind of emotional response to genocide was Defcon. It begins with conventional forces, escalates to volleys of missiles slowly arcing their way across the globe, and then as the warheads begin to hit their marks there's the combination of the numerical casualty estimates popping up next to each city, and the soft sobbing in the background... Bombing an entire enemy planet in sins seems pretty tame in comparison to one trick you
This is actually kind of a rough subject. The 'Downward Spiral', or so it's called in video games, is as a general rule not the most fun thing to experience. It is an example of where folks give up realistic gaming for the sake of having more fun; fighting into an endless I keep doing worse and worse funnel of destruction isn't nearly as neat as both competitors slugging away at full steam for the duration of their lives.
The `downward spiral' or 'slippery slope' is exa
You can't move buildings around, but you can choose where to place them. The auto-place buildings toggle is a little 'infinity' symbol to the right of the central lower window, as pointed out by chainblue. If you want to reposition a building you would have to scrap it and then rebuild it.
I agree with baka_tare. Down with needless micro.
"It is left undefined because they don't want it set in stone that you are causing mass genocide. " This only makes sense if the administrators are the only people who live along the equator, with the bulk of of the population concentrated at the poles, safe from the reach of orbital bombardment. ;)
Not all reviewers are so ego driven that they only rate in the 6-10 range.
Ego driven? Maybe it's more fanboy pandering / advertiser pleasing / status quo driven.
Eh, maybe some miscommunication on my part. Don't really care about which url gives which number to which game. Do care about games I buy being enjoyable for a decent length of time. That better?
Eh. I care! I care about replayability. It's a value for money thing. Sins is a good game which I certainly don't regret buying, but I want more. My affection for sins has already faded a bit since I only really play single player (so hard to find the time to get friends together for a decent multiplayer romp) and there is little variety playing against the AI. Either you rush with a sova or some similar nonsense, you get ganged up on at the start, or you hold on until winning is a foregone conc
The various national militaries of the world stole their ideas from Warcraft, true story.
Foogsert, you sure got a chuckle out of me. But Rickder19 does make a fairly compelling argument. For the record, I immediately thought of warcraft 3 heroes when I saw sins capships for the first time.
if animosity causes the angered ships to chase the radiance into phase space, then this is indeed hillarious! I'll have to mess around with this. Potentially some lovely `pied-piper' type scenarios here.
