tie fighter is my #2 game of all time. i can't guess how many times i played through it. was the game that inspired me to enter the soundcard age. can still remember all the controls and could play it again and it would feel completely natural. is the number 1 game i'd like to see a proper sequel to (never did like XvT very much). i think of this dead genre on a daily basis :(
thanks for the update. thinking of picking this up for a bit of coop fun.
i was glad to see 4 out of my top 5 games on the list, but i think tie fighter should have been much higher, and higher than freespace 2, even if FS2 was also absolutely brilliant. disagreed with forged alliance behind supcom 2 as well. would never argue about deus ex as #1 tho.
Right now, using Steamworks is an option. If Steam has enough market share, they could easily make it a requirement to be on Steam. Then you start charging $X per month to make use of multiplayer, chat, etc. IF Steam ever becomes dominant enough perhaps you could save this post so you can refer to it.
And there's nothing stopping Impulse from doing the same thing, if it ever dominated the market.
Heavily reminiscent of DS9, I think. I'll show the folks two episodes on Saturday.
there's a reason for that. they were in direct competition back in the day and those behind ST saw a magnificent show being created by JMS, and it shaped DS9 to an extent. B5 had a much tighter, less episodic narrative than DS9 for the most part. i envy your first watching! and the fact you won't have to wait week to week for episodes at stra
I was thinking Babylon 5,
you were thinking right. B5 is the BSG of the 90s. it pretty much pioneered the novel for tv narrative. even if your lawyer and accountant don't like it, you owe it to yourself to check out. you wont be disappointed.
there has yet to be a good ST game.
Sounds like the 3000AD games to me.
MMORPGs are souless pieces of shit.
its all on team liquid AFAIK.
playing to win isn't necessarily related to caring about one's ranking. i will always play my hardest to win, and i only care about ranking in as much as i want to be ranked accurately to ensure tight, close games. i was born in 1978 too :P i think too many people are creating artificial limits on themselve
Oh come on now, chief, you of all people should know better than to think PC Gaming will ever "Die" or is "Dying Out".
If PC gaming isn't dead, why are almost all the games I buy loaded with console design choices? whether its an FPS locked to 60 degrees or retarded control configs or simplistic gameplay options or total lack of mouse support, many games today stink of console. there will always be exceptions sure, but on the
Play the game and make up your own mind. Many good supcom/FA players will tell you supcom 2 is a better strategy game (due to there being more than a handful of tactics) but I preferred most aspects of FA. they changed virtually everything about the game (though have recently patched in build queuing without paying) and my biggest gripes were the loss of deficit spending, loss of unit numbers, the upgrade system, lower fidelity (especially terrain textures), nerf to unit
how would we know?
You have sites like metacratic these days that enable people to get a squillion sources in an instant. if you cant make an adequate judgement yourself, from reading them and watching youtube clips etc, then you deserve to have your money taken by supposedly all-powerful, colluding media/developers. Back in the day it was just pictures on the back of a box and a blurb. we managed ok.
the graphics are inconsistent. from certain vantage points the game can look absolutely stunning. i was really impressed with the lighting in any space that had shade. moving in and out of the sunlight in certain parts were really great. this effect at the tower in broken valley stands out for special recognition. could be worth checking out on another system, just in case. itd be a shame to miss all the funny and hack n slash goodness due to some random display gremlin.
two worlds 2 is already out on sites like gamersgate. not sure about impulse.
yeah, i think its on a system-by-system basis. lots of people are having better performance than the original. the problem for me is inconsistency, some areas run fine and others not so much, seemingly regardless of geometry or view distances. mostly i can get it to run fine though. definitely good enough to be played a second time.
tbh the game runs worse for me than the previous, which ran perfectly for me for whatever reason. there are a number of graphical choices to make things smooth though, i just find i have to change them occasionally depending on where i am. the gameplay is much more balanced, and easier if you're too much of a sook to L2P.
Yeah, everyone should upgrade so we can run all those cross-platform console titles better, right? [e digicons]XD[/e]
Risen is a fine alternative, but i found divinity's gameplay, loot, skill system etc all vastly superior. the ability to pick and choose any skill you want was a welcome change to most RPGs. i like being a duel-weapon-wielding mage who casts priest spells and fighter abilities :) divinity is also a much, MUCH bigger game. my first play through took almost 70 hours. with the expansion, its meant to be around 100. looking forward to risen 2 though. it was no gothic 2, but still felt the
Yeah, the problem is i suspect i'll have finished the game by the time that happens; dont think i'd play it thru a third time.
