I do start building on colonies right away, but after a factory I'll get some markets. However, if you follow GW's advice you will be less likely to go too deeoly into debt. I generally need to keep a very close eye on my treasury. Don't worry about a small deficit. I ALWAYS have a deficit at the beginning, its part of the way things "are supposed to be". The more people you send on a colony ship the better. Population grows faster with more people.

I've been kinda away too. Not here nearly as much as I was. BTW... does the Artificial Slave Center work for just the planet its on or for your whole empire. You'd think I'd know this by now.

Here's an idea... play for personal best. Or, if you feel you must compete, find where you fit into in the rankings and compete in that relm, it may be around the top 100 or maybe around the 800th ranked. Either way just play for fun and see where you can go. If you ruin the enjoyment for yourself by just trying to complete as many game as fast as you can you may as well just stop playing. Others enjoy the idea of finding new ways to score higher, that doesn't mean you have to.<

Its really best to dive right into a sandbox game i think. I don't know what your experience is with other TBS games so i can't tell you what level to start with. You may have good understanding of what you need to do from reading the forums like you said you did; now its just learning HOW to do those things. Learning the game should be fun even if you don't do well at first. Seeing things happen for the first time can be exciting. So jump in and if / when you hit a snag post

I just can't even comprehend that income. [e digicons]:(O[/e] So does the loss of income due to having over 20000 BC in your treasury effect score? I nver noticed if the loss was considered a new kind of expense or if your income was actually lowered. Oh BTW i FINALLY got my 20 game medal.
