The easy answer is that the Earth is not a closed system and the Second Law only applies to closed systems.
Ok; that's reasonable. My point, though is: Are there any problems, at all, with evolution? If not, then we have a perfect theory, given the information we have. If so, then we have an imperfect theory that can be improved. I don't think ID is that improvement, because I think God would create a universe that wouldn't need his intervention to function. Do you agree?
Thats right they are not NEARLY AS OBVIOUSLY ludicrous... that is the whole problem. I think that christians can be scientists. My parents are... I just don't think that ID Christians can be scientists, cause it's just not a science. It's belief.
Ok then; sorry - I must have misunderstood. I agree with you.
Thanks elias001. And why can't evolution be ID, too?
Funnily enough, that's the point I've been trying to make :P I just don't think t
What if the bible said that thunder is actually the sound of god farting?
No one said anything of the kind, and our arguments aren't nearly as obviously ludicrous as this one. There's nothing wrong with a thirteen-billion-year-old universe, metamorphic rocks, dinosaurs who didn't live at the same time as humans, and so on. Some on here might disagree with me, but don't generalize. It's unpleasant and totally unnecessary. It also reflects poorly on the person's intelligenc
Christianity is not much more than an altered Greek Cosmology. It's superstition. You're welcome to believe it if it comforts you, but belief does not constitute proof. Not now, not ever.
Actually, the Hebrews were around before the Greeks, weren't they?
The last section of your argument is, I feel, adequately summed up by: 'is it too much to say that if God had created the world, he would have created the universal laws such that he wouldn't have to break them to get everything done?'
Yes; that is precisely what I'm saying :P
I hold, though, that if we assume both God and the traditional evolutionary theory, then your statement does not make sense in the context of the world. Between a protozoa and me it
You must admit though that this whole intelligent design garbage is an almost uniquely American phenomenon.
I admit that it's irrelevant. Obviously I don't think it's garbage - I'm just saying it's not scientific. If ID only teaches that there is a guiding force, then every Christian, Jew, Muslim etc. believes in ID, theologically. I think we agree ID shouldn't be taught in science class, but I don't think it's garbage.
Does that include discrimination of
Who said God didn't snap his fingers and the Universe came forth and it all just happened? Why does he have to directly intervene if he created it all from the start? I always think people undercut God's omnipotence when they say that evolution is false. Who is to say that he didn't put forth the proper laws of physics, matter, etc when the Universe was first created that would eventually result in the creation of life through evolution? Of course if you are a Biblical
What it comes down to, I guess, is the argument from entropy. Things tend toward disorder, and I don't think it can be denied that the way life works is a fairly orderly thing. The only energy added to the system of Earth is not orderly energy, and disordered energy doesn't seem to me to do any good for decreasing entropy: there's a stack of laundry on my floor. I could either put organized energy into doing a load of laundry, or I could shine a light at it until it catches on fire.[/quot
What do you suppose I should research? If you mean the Christian death god, then I already have.
No, I don't think you have. But I don't think we're going to have a resolution to our little argument here. You go ahead saying what you want, and I'll go ahead saying what I want. How about that?
Oh, Americans... I wish you people would stop worshiping the evil death god of the Bible.
*shrug* you're not contributing. Furthermore, you need more research. Come back when you've looked into it a bit more.
Remember that science is for creating models of the universe that function until better models come along. Is Intelligent Design, scientifically (and only scientifically), as good as or better than evolution? I don't think so. The question is, is ID a purely scientific theory, or not? If it is not scientific, it shouldn't be taught as such. Once it gains enough support from objective, verifiable evidence (i.e. conforms to the nature of scientific method) to compete with evolution as a t
Yeah, those white male Christians, so discriminated against in modern American society.
I'm a white male Christian. I'm not persecuted. I'm certainly not discriminated against. I have my life as lucky as you do, and as most people on this forum. I have opportunities that billions of people don't, and I'm perfectly aware of this. People like you, on the other hand, seem to think that we are not aware of this, and promptly make fun of us for it. You also make fun of us for
In the days of gun ships, there was a huge discrepancy jump between a heavy cruiser and a battleship!
Thanks for your input, sir; this is a cogent point!
Some things don't translate directly, though. For example, there are several battlecuisers in Sins. The concept behind a battlecruiser was to construct a ship with the firepower of a battleship, but the speed of a cruiser at the expense of armor protection. Obviously, this doesn't translate to Sins. An Akkan or Dunov battlecruiser is the same speed as a Kol battleship, but has less firepower and defense. The firepower issue is somewhat counterbalanced by the fact that the Akkan and Dunov
I won't comment any further on this here, as it really isn't on topic at all. I just wanted people to know that, while you may be trying to help them, you're advice is not based in logic or fact and will actually put them at risk rather than help them play Sins.
I actually hope the Monk responds to this, because it seems to me that he's quite aware of what he's talking about. As in, this is an interesting argument, and since both of you appear intelligent I'd like to see
Isnt it just like, a apple is called an apple cause the term just got assigned someday or evolved into it. Its just a word that you associate with something. If you give all the ship classes fantasy name you wouldnt really say this "Baram" class ship is to small compared to a "Rasam". Free yourself from these fixed associations and you expand your mind.
True enough, but remember a ship class isn't the same as a ship type. For example, there are battleships, and there
This is where you went wrong. Stop comparing a video game in space to World War I clashes. You'll be much better off in the long term.
True, but then why are there cruisers, battleships and battlecruisers in the game? Battlecruisers don't exist anymore - it's not a matter of being outdated, it's a matter of consistency. If they're going to include levels of ships, they might as well include all the types that are commonly recognized. And for that matter, destroyers, f
Hi guys, I'm reading a fascinating book about the Battle of Jutland at the moment. And, playing the demo for SoaSE, I am making rather obvious connections between the two :P So I'll keep it short: Why is there such a large size discrepancy between cruisers and capital ships? Also, why does a battleship appear as large as a battlecruiser? Where are the destroyers? Don't get me wrong, I love this game... I'm just a bit caught up in the majestic nature of First Wo

Think ion storm, but with some of the things people mention earlier. NEUTRON STAR - an initial shock wave damages ALL craft in the area. Then there is an intense first period in which the effect is the same as a gravity mine, but much greater. Then it decreases and becomes a permanent field, but not as
we need an end game ship that costs like 100 supply and tonnes of credits metal and crystal. it should be a mobile planet. something that is exactly like a planet but on wheels. thrusters sry.
That's no moon...
OP, your post was a little flamey
I disagree. Awkward wording here and there might have invited flame (not the least of which is the literal invitation at the end :P ), but the post is by no means a flame in itself. And notice that since the sarcasm problem has cleared up, the responses on this thread have become a lot more reasonable; it seems people still disagree with the OP, but are a lot more cogent and, more importantly, mature, in doing so.
Nebulas - a gravity well (or a group of gravity wells) would be encompassed by a nebula where sensors dont work (no empire tree shown) so you have to zoom in and look around in there with limited distance of visibilty. If you zoom out more than a few thousand feet from your ship you cant see anything but explosions and weapons fire going on in there
Nebulae are huge - non-planetary nebulae tend to be many light-years across, and planetary (the types resulting from superno
Do you have city structures to defend in WCII?
Well, you've got base structures in WC3, but, as has been stated on this post (to death), so do other games. But then the OP was pointing out similarities that he saw - I personally disagree with him, but he wasn't at all inflammatory, unlike some radioactive isotopes I could name :P
right
Don't you mean "write"?
In hindsight, maybe my topic was rooted in ignorance, but most of these destructive, sarcastic responses are completely unwarranted, and quite frankly, those of you who made the comments are snide assholes. I became excited when I saw the correlation between the games, and having never played many other games, I thought the connection was for the most part exclusive. I was expecting some constructive responses to this post, but instead I was patronized by e-bullies. Shame on you
