More appreciation of the setting and less tactical view. 2. Keep the micro of course.

Yes.. having played more I now realize the tech bug is enormous, a game breaker for me. Even though I actually prefer the aggressive conquest victories with minimal tech. Still, it's more time to spend out of doors although I certainly hope Stardock fixes it soon. ToA with its unique tech trees and prettier graphics is the only reason I play GalCiv, to put it plainly. So in that sense, if the tech bug is fixed ToA is more than well worth it.

This bug is game breaking. The news is good to hear if they are able to make it. ToA has become unplayable and the tech trees really make the game for me, I barely played DL. Still it's time to get out of doors in the summer and get on a roll and that makes up for this. I do grudgingly trust Stardock that they will not renege on their statement and the update will be handled in a timely enough manner.

Regardless, this situation is moot with the horrendous tech bug. Time for a break from TA. I've been in enough games conquering 2/3rd of the galaxy and having the tech grind to a halt; I would like to eventually see capital ships someday. Without playing Gigantic maps and taking an even longer time to absorb all the planets. Even worse when it happens before I militarize
I am not so sure that cranking military expenditure up to 100% sometime during the expansion phase is a good idea, if one were determined perhaps to try and get as many colony ships out as possible. 50 / 50 with research most of the time is able to get me all the worlds I want, the best worlds, appropriate expansion oriented technologies in a timely manner and be significantly larger than the AI empires. Different games have different mechanics and I leave it at that and for you to hash out the details. But a few notes, planetary improvements, for example, will have very minor effects when you only have 2 planets, same with economics, same with diplomacy, when you have nobody to talk to and then when you meet them, nothing to trade. Down the diplomacy line is the government techs which are also +econ, but with only a few planets and when you are rich in the beginning they also do not benefit m
The Arcean speed penalty is easily compensated for with a couple of easy researches and they are actually faster than standard races.Passively faster yes. With engines they will still get blown away by the Alterians and Terrans.
I hardly care about competing with the Terrans. If you want to play the fastest race in the game then play the fastest race. Arceans are already faster than the majority through much of the game, with engines. Taking into consideration the res

Propulsion and military production should be the first things researched. Expansion is first priority. Diplomacy can be put off, even indefinitely depending on what you want to do. Take it from a Drengin player :) Diplomacy is useless in the beginning anyway and will hurt your development researching it at the wrong time. Which brings us to what you have picked up on, the tech tree is what is important at this time. Look through it and plan out what you want to achieve and how you

The Arcean speed penalty is easily compensated for with a couple of easy researches and they are actually faster than standard races. Look through their tech tree. The AI is just unable to handle it and needs a massive overhaul. Propulsion should be a priority in the beginning anyway and among the first techs researched. Otherwise you'll be just like the AI, spinning around in their little corner. What is strange though is the custom race is much better. This is not the c
1. Try not to go beyond 18 billion people. Otherwise the planet starts getting really crowded and people get really angry. That´s true. But if your Empire evolved to a certain Stage, you should indeed put the big Colonys higher then 18 Million. Build farms only on large economic worlds. Small worlds will see a morale drop due to the crowding, as well as have less tiles to build economic improvements. Farms on manufacturing worlds detract from the factory concentration. Research structures on economic worlds detract from the economic concentration. Do take advantage of research bonus tiles though, of course. When you are looking at the details screen and checking out the planetary bonuses, know that it include

I have lots of games with feelings like this, and I don't usually let it play out so far. I'd rather not think about the underwhelming victory screen instead I'll be satisfied knowing I have essentially conquered the galaxy

I explore mostly with colony ships anyway. I have yet to try the Arcean. We'll see. I do enjoy extorting their navigation and propulsion technologies from them. Creativity rarely kicks in and thus justifies the +1 cost. However, saving 10+ turns in the early game is a huge boost especially when playing for early victory

I play an expansionist Drengin with +20 Econ +20 Morale +50 Mil. This allows for a strong and fast colony rush and later, a strong and fast militarization. Again, have to take note of the little numbers, the maintenance costs of buildings, and I leave my new colonies empty except for a recruiting center and any research bonuses and later on when the numbers add up, an economic building. I had only cursory experience of DL but I am loving the feel of the slower propulsion. Not even nee
I am annoyed at how my games never progress beyond medium hulls unless I force it.
Or small ships. Medium hulls are a luxury. Having the AI face my theoretical large battleships with smalls and mediums is probably a little bit unbalanced however. Just time to ramp up the difficulty notch.

I hadn't played much GC2 before TA and I like to play as the Drengin, so heavy research midgame and beyond is already a chore for me and I write off any difficulties to that. I rush conquer anyway so it wouldn't affect me as much, but I am annoyed at how my games never progress beyond medium hulls unless I force it. I want fleets of all conquering battleships

From a new player perspective with only cursory previous experience in DL Arceans, Yor, and Altarians are complete garbage. Korx aren't much better. Arceans have a huge fall from grace from DL to TA from the few games of DL I saw. The standout powerful races are the Korath and if allowed to tech the Iconians, although with the latter it is probably because I edited them. I don't know about the Drengin, maybe as I've been playing as them, and I have yet to fight the Terrans, who a
