In Elemental, dragons are a very very big deal. For most players, they're more like forces of nature. You won't be easily able to get them on your side because they're just too powerful. 1 Elder dragon could wipe out 1000 soldiers easily. Until you've built up your charisma/diplomacy skills, best to stay the heck away from a dragon. There are other creatures in the world (lots of different types) that you can make u

I don't usually like custom smilies, but when they are all consistant across an entire site, they can be great. In this case, they're bloody awesome! [e digicons]|-)[/e] (and yes, I did this post solely to try out my new avatar)
Simple, the modded file is actually replacing the entire defaults (shown as they are in the game DATA sub-root) altogether since it has the very same name. I thought this was the "regular" way of appending extra items via a "true" mod structure. The only difference being WHERE any of these files get loaded from... MODx?x (or within a game directory itself) \ DATA \ ENGLISH \ ... (root) ---or---<br

I don't really have much to add, except repeat some of the things I think is a must: Dragon-pimping. Upgrading your new dragon ally/pet. Wheter it's plating it in adamantium or adding serrated blades to the wings, tail(s) or claws. Dragon-riding. The chance to ride the dragon, either as your own (the Channeler's) or as a minion ("granting" the dragon to heroes). This'd work like pimping out the heroe(s) or channeler, granting abilities (dragon breath?),

Alright, I managed to solve it. I still don't have an idea WHY it works now and why it didn't work before. I took the last file I made (the original one with my additional parties stuffed to the end) and simply renamed it to "PoliticalParties.xml", still stuck in the PoliticalParties mods folder. Now, automagicly, all parties seem to be working properly (instead of just half of them). This makes absolutely no sense to me, but now it works. If anyo
There doesn't seem to be any typos above and AFAIC, the whole numbering pattern fits the intended structure. I do have an extra fourteen parties in X-Worlds and they all work fine - the only difference i can see in your xml file is that the defaults aren't listed INTO it while my modded pp.xml kept everything as it was -- i only added (pending) the supplemental ones to that 'default list'. Unless, ther

I managed to fix it by simply cutting the TechTree entry out and move it to just below the Xeno Industrial Theory, then save it all in the mod directory. It could end up causing some compatability issues (I assume) if Stardock decides to muck around with techs in some future patch(es), but it shouldn't be too bad (I suppose). Thanks for the help, <a id="ctl00__Content__RepeaterReplies_ctl00__LinkUser" class="hand" title="Click user name to view more options." onclick="S
The order in which they are defined/declared... problem is, all techs in TechTree.xml are read first, so they end up showing up before any other techs. This causes some really weird looking tech tree displays sometimes. Try placing a dummy entry in the TechTree.xml file below where Xeno Industrial Theory is. That should fix the problem.
Hmm.. yeah, I can see how that may work. I put a dummy there, to "open up" a spot for m

Alright, I'm working on a number of political parties, in this case a stripped-down version of General Pant's Political Parties (because I didn't find some of them to fit seamlessly into the game). The issue is.. it's just not working properly. Expansionists works. Isolationist works. Foundationists works. Nationalists works. Conservationists works. Fundamentalists works. Moralists works. Artificial Socialists works. Frequentists works. Libertines/Libertine Party works. Businessmen/Mo

As per the topic. What governs what order techs are sorted? I'm working on my own custom race tech tree, and I'd really want my "Slavery Industrial Theory" to show up just below "Xeno Industrial Theory", instead of being sorted aaaaalll the way underneath the minor techs or shorter tech-"lines" (such as "Extreme Colonization").

I tried doing a search, but I couldn't actually find anything anywhere. Is there a way to run multiple instances of GalCiv2? I'm working on a mod a bit, and it'd really help if I could run more than one window of GalCiv2, to cross-check tech trees.

I'm still hoping that "I" don't have to be in the game at all. But I'm all for RPG elements, I'm just saying that whomever "I" am, "I" won't be in the game. :p
The developers are typically in the channel a great deal. A number of us are already on IRC anyway, so one channel certainly doesn't hurt. Your best bet for a lively discussion is probably "business hours" (which for a number of developers is around 9am-6pm).
Oi! Shouldn't you be WORKING on business hours? :D
I read the 2nd amendment, including the first line. I think it has been grossly misused in modern America. While I think its too late to ban all weapons, I would ban quite a lot and place a lot more restrictions on sales of the rest. Not a surprising view from a Tory (historically having been the party of monarchists), but it's kinda important to us given that having weapons is what allowed us to throw off the monarchy in the first place.<br

Wow, I must really say that I absolutely ADORE the art direction this seems to be taking. Works of beauty rather than "MORE LENS FLARE!" . Taking a step "back" to the kind of art fantasy gamers enjoyed, back in the day, with painted backgrounds and whatnot. Rather than "on-the-fly" generated 3D-models. If people compare the graphic quality contra art direction of Neverwinter Nights/2 and Baldur's Gate/2, you'll have a fair idea of what I'm talki

Issues like this have been discussed before, like how radioactive worlds require special things, instead of simply wrapping everything in lead.. or something. "Special" worlds represent the worst of the worst in their respective category. A toxic world for example, isn't just a case of bad weather and some poison, but acidic rains. Comparatively, a "barren" world isn't just arid - it's a desolate wasteland with very little or no water, surface minerals, where absolutely nothing grows.<b

I just can't wrap my head around why some games GM staff feel they can just treat their customers like so much dogshit on the bottom of their shoe. Reminds me of Turbine. [...]
Hey!
