As i recall they are used pretty much solely for assigning what research should affect the weapon, possibly they effect what abilities affect them as well (here I'm thinking of the energy weapons boost).

Nah, Sins is good, but its not Top 5 games ever good, maybe in the Top 10-15 Strategy games though, and definitely one of the best games in recent years. Judging games by personal preference, off the top of my head, I'd go with: Conflict Freespace 1+2 Terra Nova Thief 1+2 System Shock 1+2 Civ 4 But then I'm leaving out Battlezone 1+2, Gal Civ 2, Quake 3 Arena, Fallout 1+2, Baldurs Gate, SupCom, Homeworld, Company

First I would like to point out that this is a 4X game, so it would probably be a much more helpful idea to keep ideas relevant to the genre, for example how many 4X games can you name with unit limits, or checkpoints? That said, my comments are just about games in general To add to the argument on infinite\finite resources, I would assert that it really depends on how the designers want the game to be played, making resources infinite implicitly&nbsp

The difference between this and Warcraft III is that the community here is say, a 50th of the size, and every little personalised mod that only 10 people will play splinters the community further. Additionally I'm not going to point out the innate differences between a Map and a Mod.
Somebody shoot me.I wanna play an earth invasion game from the point of the aliens for once. AND it's based around the aliens. It isn't just some nansy-pansy side campaign. I want full on EARTH DOMINATION!!!!!!!
Then might i suggest Universe At War:Earth Assault, as that is the Exact premise, humanity isn't even a proper faction, its just something there to get blown up in a variety of interesting ways.

What's my favourite genre? Shmups! by a great distance, oh and for clarity I mean proper shmups, not FPS and the like as the last good FPS was Quake III Arena. Why? Firstly challenge, secondly challenge, and third because its one of the (Very)few forms of computer gaming left that still takes skill. What genre do I have the most games from? Strategy by an equally huge distance. Why? I have no idea, it just turned out like that, which is not to say that I don't enjoy strategy games obvio

For me it really depends on how the shows would be continued, for example, I would agree with more Space: Above and Beyond having been made at the time, just not a remake, because remakes very rarely capture the spirit of the original. Though that said I really cant think of many shows that I even feel warrant continuation, probably only Tripods and Blakes 7, but both of those needed finishing rather than continuing. As to New shows, there are 3 things that I have always felt d

He states he has the Mods area in the Options Menu so he should have patched already. Firstly, if your having to create the folder your definitely not in the right place. Secondly, unless something has changed in 1.05 the mods folder isn't in Program Files, the path should look something like this (yes for vista) C:\Users\{Your Username}\AppData\Local\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Mods\ So i suggest you recheck your mod path in game.

Ok, I keep getting a lot of error messages that are, shall we say unhelpful in identifying whats causing the problem, I shall note that im using the developer exe, though that is likely apparent from the error messages. c:\gs\gamma\03\CodeSource\GS\Entity\Interfaces\IResearchSubject.cpp(109): assert! [m_Tier == researchWindowLocation.pos.m_X] This one I really, really dont understand, as there is next to no research in the mod at the moment. Is
Well, I watched the conclusion and found it fitting. I would not call it time Travel, but, a closed Time Loop instead. I think I will pre-order the DVD from aetv.com. This is more of a Terror film than a SciFi film, including the book. I read the book and saw the original film. If the scenario is too plausible, it is a Terror genre, which Dr. Crighton wrote.
Wait, I'm sorry, how is the scenario depicted in the 2008 version plausible exactly? If your just talking
For me, the best monster hands down is Alien. Saw it first when I was way too young and now, in my 30s, still have an occasional nightmare's where I'm on a ship being chased by one or more of them. Yikes!
Ha, you mentioning nightmares reminded me of the only monster that ever gave me nightmares (inexplicably), The Blob, now thats the best (by which I obviously mean laziest) monster concept ever.

I had written another post then i discovered this [link="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CTVvok4S_9E"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CTVvok4S_9E[/link] which actually turns out to be pretty good list, except I would add the Monster from the Id from The Forbidden Planet in, because its brilliant.

assuming you have created the mesh already, and placed it in the correct directory, then to change what mesh an entity uses you just change the line that reads, for example MeshName "CapitalShip_TechBattleship" you would need to change "CapitalShip_TechBattleship" to the filename of your new mesh

I Think what you are suggesting should be possible, creating a separate race for the militia definitely is, the only thing I haven't tested is what setting the "IsNormalPlayer" Tag to true does, if your lucky it does just makes it use the normal ai (rather than the pirate or insurgent ai) because that would pivotal in getting them to properly work as a minor empire rather than just the militia.

Yes, you can edit the galaxyscenariodef file without breaking the game, I would point out however that if you choose to add or takeaway anything there are Counts for pretty much everything which need to be changed, in your examples above they would be the "items 4" and "items 6" lines but there are Many others, so just read the file carefully.

Not the first games but the ones I remember most clearly are, Faery Tale, Elite, Rogue, and EGA Trek, Oh and Xenon 2. I think I remember some of them best because of the difficulty level at the time, I dont think I Ever beat Faery Tale *goes to find a copy so he can have another go* If others have gone into console territory, I shall go into arcade territory and say Defender, awesome game, even if it did occasionally (ok fairly frequently) make you want to pummel people.
Well, I liked the slow pace of it, and the teach tree was good, although it could be bigger. I'm happy for it to be set in space, or anywhere. I've heard that most 4X games are turn based, which I'm not a huge fan of. I would prefer the game to be real time.
With the combination of slow pace and a large tech tree, you are definitely into turn based 4x territory, if you haven't played a Turn-based 4X game before which is what it sounds like, then i can asure you they don't

Any recommendations would really depend on what you liked about Sins? because for example its not representative of 4X gaming, and if your listed games are the only strategy games you have played then many 4X games may seem overwhelming.

I don't think it would have bothered me so much if it wasn't still claiming to be The Andromeda Strain, it could have just been another trashy sci-fi mini series (of which there are many) but by claiming to be The Andromeda Strain there are certain expectations of plot and story that they just failed miserably at meeting.
