What happened to every race having their own weapons? That seemed to be a big point pushed in the TOTA trailer. All that seems to have happened is renaming of the tech tree weapons for the races but they all have the same animations. If that's how it's going to be don't even bother giving each race "different" weapons. Otherwise I'm drooling right now. Bug I saw: I had the option of adding the fleet warp bubble modules be
Stardock has released all the previous starting betas for games and expansions usually at the end of the work day the beta is scheduled to be out. They do this to make sure they have all the stuff worked out for a beta release so customers don't get any alpha surprises. It'd be nice if other game companies would actually have things ready for their final release of their crap. Don't count on the beta any earlier than end of work day Tuesday on the east coast of the US. However, since they have s
Just don't pull a stunt like working on the game when you have much, much more important things to do.... like a new child coming. I suppose the IT staff can be told that as well.
[quote]So Stardock.... Most gamer machines have more than 2 Gigs of RAM. The ones that don't have XP operating system anyway. I know that XP wouldn't use any more than 2 Gigs no matter what; but I have Vista and I don't have that problem. Do you guys want to update yourselves to the technology that has updated? The memory wall has nothing to with windows Vista vs XP. As I understand it it's a problem with 32bit processing. So you could have 8GB of shiny ram in your PC and each proc

Also... how in the heck does your programming kill memory when there are a lot more graphic intensive and very buggy, memory leaking, pathetic games out there that do not have this problem? That
Yea! Not one memory crash yet. I was able to actually finish a game. But the computer grounded my face into the sidewalk and then ran me over with an industrial truck used to move tons of earth. Ouch... I decided to go up in difficulty. I also had the most ships I have ever had. The ai had more. Well, here I go again.
I'm sorry for blowing up in my post above. I was just so frustrated. It is weird how it will not have any memory errors on my notebook computer and then have problems on my desktop with the same mods and settings on both computers. I'll download the 1.6c and hopefully that will fix it. Thanks for the game that I have played more than any other. <a href="https://www.stardock.com/products/sdcen
I never had any "out of memory errors" until 1.6 came out. I emailed two smart exceptions logs in a few hours today because of those. I also have a screenshot of my memory usage when DA crashed like Win 95 alpha version. I have 3 Gigs of RAM and the game was not even using 2 Gigs of RAM! My computer was using a total of 2.14 Gigs of RAM when it crashed. I have programs that take up memory running in the background. Like I said I have never had this problem until 1.6 came out. I had my virtual RA
It wouldn't let me edit my previous post. If the ai is not doing well with starbases then up the difficulty level. If your playing the highest difficulty level then create some super crazy enemies. Personally I don't have this issue. In my games the ai is always building weapons for its starbases and usually not enough defenses.
2 words, Military starbases Military starbases help ships in combat during battles according to the modules installed on them. And I think they only help out the attack and defense of ships if the ships has the same weapon or defense as the starbase module. For instance you would need to build a module on a military starbase that helps out with beams and then one with shields if your ships only have beam weaponry and shield defenses. If you buil
Heh, SotS star map was definitely not disorientating unless you have a deficiency... Or you have created a 50+ stars galaxy. So you limit yourself to a galaxy below 50 stars? Thats not a very fun game. (In my opinion.) It appears that the 3d galaxy map does affect game play for you. I have SOTS and BoB by the way and I never play on such a small map. I like the galaxy to be realistic as the game will let it. I want as many stars as possible. <br
I know that a new version has been released, [.76(b).018] today but just in case this helps anywhere. I was playing with [0.76(b).017]. I was playing a long, long game and it crashed either when it autosaved, or when a huge enemy fleet came to one of my planets. It didn't say anything about emailing a dmp file, I couldn't even fine one on my computer anywhere. But I opened smart exception and it had logged it. So I sent it to support@stardock. Which I probably wasn't supposed to but I didn't no
I'm starting to believe my memory problems might be caused by my graphics card. I recently went on vacation and used my notebook computer to play the game and it didn't have any problems, even on a huge map. My notebook computer has an intel graphics whatever that is shared with the system RAM which is not even 2GB. I think my desktop graphics card needs to be replaced as I believe the fan on it works intermittently. And it probably has other problems. Bummer.
I was using the 1.6a version from the link you showed me. The thread containing the newer release is here. But then Stardock was updated and I updated it and now my version is 1.61.090 for DA My game no longer says "a" anywhere with the version on the main screen. It says 1.61. I know that XP doesn't support more than 2 Gigs. I had an XP computer with 4 Gigs and that amount wouldn't even register in the system window on the con
I will. But I have never bothered to check the memory usage because I have 3 Gigs of RAM. One time Carie Elf asked me about memory a while back and she told me it probably wasn't the problem when she learned I had 3 Gigs, (that was with a different problem though). I suppose I might have some kind of memory failure, but I had that before and my computer wouldn't start up until I took the bad RAM out. I'm guessing I'm supposed to monitor the RAM usage in DA by other means than t
Sorry for taking so long to answer back. I believe it crashed during the save. I think that is what has been happening all the time it has been doing that. I can play the same game but I have to load from the previous autosave or a quicksave I made earlier. Then it goes for a while and does the same thing again. But sometimes it doesn't crash again and I don't have a problem. When it does crash it always crashes and says I don't have enough memory while it is autosaving. I did play without autos
I was playing on a gigantic map with max civs, at the moment of crash becuase of not enough memory I had very few ships. Nevermind. I found the file in this directory on Vista, interesting. "C:\Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Setting" Here is what is typed in the file concerning autosave when I opened it. GS_AUTOSAVE FALSE AUTOSAVE_INTERVAL 300 So autosave is off, (if I'm reading the correct line in the file), so it's not the autosave. <
Uglycow, is it possible you have AutoSave enabled? It would freeze the game around every 3-4 minutes. You can check this in c:\documents and settings\username\application data\sins of a solar empire\setting\user.setting file (notepad will open it) and check if Autosave is enabled. If so, change it to FALSE. But it only freezes like that on 4 star or larger galaxies. I played with max amount of ai on the smallest galaxy and it never froze like that. Once
I thought the amount of ships you can have is mainly controlled by how many planets under your control, but I believe there is a way to increase it further by upgrading planet owned.
I do have the latest version of DirectX9.0(whatever) from the Microsoft Website installed on my computer as some games I have will not run on DX10; including this one. The game keeps freezing graphically but continues to run. The sound is still going and the voice that advertises messages still goes but on screen everything stops. So far I have found a way out of it, I do the 'alt+tab" thing and go to the desktop and then go back to the game and everything that was frozen now jumps to were it actually is. It is annoying when it happens during battles especially. I can hear shots being fired and explosions but not until I do the alt+tab combo do I know what exa
Do you have to uninstall the beta 1 for beta 2 to work? I've beta tested Stardock GalCiv2 and DA and I never had to uninstall those betas when a new beta came out. I realize this is probably a stupid question as it may be answered by actually looking around the forums, but I'm lazy and in a hurry. Edit: Never Mind. I'm silly
Well I had the same crash with this new fix, eventually. I was playing on a Huge map with max civs. It still going fast and then when it tries to auto save I get the exact same memory crash message as before this fix. I have sent the debug file and the previous autosave file to the gc2 bug email. I'm wondering if it could be the models I'm using. I'll get rid of the custom models I downloaded and try again.
