As I am packing up and making preparations to fly out Monday morning it has occurred to me that the surgical pins, screws, and plates in my pelvis will likely cause me some hassles as I go through airport security. I'm sure they are trained and experienced in such matters, but it does make me wonder just how they handle such a situation?

I suppose the smart thing to do would be to inform them of the implanted stainless (3 lbs worth) prior to passing through the metal detector. I'm sure they will have to wand me and pat me down. I certainly hope I won't be required to actually show them the scar as I don't like the idea of having to drop my pants in the middle of an airport. :LOL:

Do you look good in skivvies?  You will probably be asked to strip down to them.  Dont sweat it.  They are just doing their job, and at least you can look threatening!  Not like an 80 year old Norwegian Grandma!

No scars required.  Just tell them. And get a laugh out of it!

My older sister had to get a letter from her doctor stating she has a total knee replacement, but that was for something else..

You could always give them a call and ask. Considering how tough airport security is in the US you probably need a letter from the doctor or something. They might also make you go through the x-ray machine on your side - that could be fun.

I read the TSA website info. Seems ya just need to inform them and get wanded/patted down. The x-ray machine could be fun though.
