Crap! Decision Time and I Don't Know What To Do

I had a message on my machine when I got home this evening. It was from my former boss at the trucking company I was driving for when I had the car wreck a little over a year ago. He said he has my truck "cleaned up, polished up, and ready to rock and roll."

I have been considering going back to driving for him although I am still not certain the hip is going to be up to it. But maybe it will be. Grrrr. I do know that the money would be more than double what I currently earn. But I would also be on the road a lot, and home not a lot. And of course I'd have to buy another laptop for the road. But I sure do miss it in a lot of ways.

I need to return his call tomorrow, but I just don't know what to tell him. I do know I need a little more time to make sure I have enough money to cover my household expenses the first of the month as well as buying a plane ticket to get up to Wisconsin.

Crap! For once in my life I am at a total loss and just don't know what the best decision is in this case. Maybe I should just toss a coin.

Deference. No, their trucks aren't equipped with satellite communications. They use cell phones instead. Wouldn't make a big difference either way though as I would normally use Wifi for internet when on the road anyway.

Nah, never trusted Doc's opinions anyway. I know how I feel better than they do.

About the only pain meds one can take while driving truck is Advil or something. Strong pain killers are banned for truckers. That's part of what concerns me, whether the hip would cause me too much trouble or not.

Well, my heart's desire would be to have great wealth and live in the lap of luxury.

That's really the rub, Trudy. I'm not really sure what would be the best decision for me physically, lifestyle wise, or financially in the long run. Pros and cons to both, plus a lot of unknowns and intangibles.

Here's what I do:

I toss a coin.

While the coins in the air you will catch yourself silently wishing for it to land a certain way. Go with the way your wishing before the coin lands.

Make a list of pros and cons of each choice, staying with your current job or going back to truck driving, then make your decision. I know it's just not that easy. Cause some of the pro's and con's way outweigh other ones. So I guess I'm completely unhelpful. Good luck with your decision. I always say a prayer and ask for a brick wall to built against the one I shouldn't choose because I don't get subtle hints.

After sleeping on it, I've decided that if he's willing to cover the airfare to get me there I'll go. If not, I can't afford it right now. I guess that'll be the telling point.

Yeah, something like that. The next hurdle, assuming he'll spring for the airfare, is getting to the airport. I just checked the cab company. $53 for a ride to the airport. Ouch!

Take a bus as close to the airport as you can get, "then" take a cab. That's what I used to do when I was in the Navy and stationed in Norfolk. Good Luck!

Is the airport on a bus line?  If so, maybe you can get a cab ride to the nearest bus stop and then take a bus.  Probably be cheaper that way.

Not all the way there. Are there none that come within say a mile or 2? Then take the cab. That ride should be less than the $53.

Well, the decision is made and I've committed to it. He's paying for the airfare, I fly out Monday morning. I also solved the problem of getting to the airport. I called a guy who owes me a favor, and he's going to give me a ride to the airport.

Now I just have to get packed and get the house prpared to be vacant for a little while. But I think I'll have a beer or three first.

Still not sure it's the right decision, but hell, you only live once and I really do want to know if I've recovered from the wreck enough to do it. Worse case, I find that I can't do the work any more, get all my belongings back that were left in the rig when I had my wreck, and find something easier.
