Inappropriate comments and their removal

The way to go about it.

Frequently a skin will attract 'the idiot element' and receive comments one would 'rather not' have.

With the size of the site it's nigh-on impossible for an admin to catch all of them in a timely fashion...so the trick is to email an admin/moderator for 'aisle cleanup', or if all else fails a quick 'request' for same on the Forum or IRC.

Once 'dealt with' the forum thread can be removed as well....problem solved.

What is less than 'successful' is to engage in boisterous banter with the 'problem' person as that only attracts more unwanted comment.

Some are definitely less adept at snuffing out these issues and actually do more harm than good.

Like grafitti, it's best 'cleaned' promptly....;)

i hope it´s cleare for everyone.

People please, do not leave bad and un-necessary comments on others skins, a good example of a constructive comment is(if you do not like the skin):

I have to say it´s a well done skin, is not my style, but it´s good.

well one could also actually point out what is wrong with the skin instead of the personal flame assaults that prompted Jafo's post.

My apologies, Jafo, for an earlier contrubution in that regard....I see the thread's been removed...probably best

Wasn't your doing, starkers....the thread was not a 'good plan' from the outset...

Good post Jafo. I have used IRC a few times to let someone know about a problem and it works very well.

Bringing any attention to the culprit has never done any good I agree.

I fully agree. If you don't play their game, they don't exist.

Hmm... I could comment...

I would have to say that IRC is probably the fastest way of getting help in these matters. Its rare to find a time when there is no one around to 'fix' the issues that arise...

A report spam button would be nice . . .

someone should start a "petition" (wink, wink) to have one added...

I've sent an email for such mentioned action and received none. All efforts are appreciated.

Much love to all, peace and understanding.

Probably due to the sheer volume they receive.

Sounds like the way to go.

Hmmmmm.... Too bad the "Remove" feature couldnt be implimented somehow upon the posting artists list of options... It would take a load off of the mods and give the artist instant gratification, LoL... I suppose it could be abused..but if that was the case nobody would comment....

*Shrugz* I dunno...just a thought...

If an author wanted to remove a comment . . . and folks stopped commenting on that author because of said removals . . . no one is harmed except the author who might miss out on good feedback. But really, he/she is not really harmed.

I still think commenting should be disabled unless the skin was downloaded. That might slow down the drive bys. Same with ratings.

I don't know what "IRC" is. I'll just ignore the bad comments.

i may be wrong, but close: Internet Relay Chat

If you don't have your own chat client, SDC does.

I do agree.....but

I am a graffiti writer and have been for 15 years now.......and to relate that to this site is silly to me??

an artist is an artist! regardless of which way you or i look at it!

this isnt the first time i have had these comments thrown i my face and i think if people took the time to educate themselves on the topic they would find its one of the largest movments in modern day art culture! i'm not trying to be sarcastic....honestly!

my prior artistic experiences have lead me to this site to begin with, and i would never say anything on your site to insult anyone! i just think real graffiti artists deserve some freekin credit already!! especially on a site that requires some artist knowledge to contribute......

anywho thats my 2 cents of the day!

I may not have started it, but still, I should have had more self restraint than to contribute. Having a few bad hair days recently should not be an excuse to vent/express my frustrations here, therefore my comment was inapppropriate and I regret having made it.

Jafo,
Are you per chance referring to a comment I made on a skin in which I used the term.. "Idiot"?
If so, then sorry. ..

i agree, the thread wasn't a good plan at all. and in all honesty, i knew that it would be taken down...that was kind of the point if that makes any sense. over the past month i have sent emails, contributed to other threads...unfortunately i have never used IRC so i didn't even know that was an option. the thread was a last ditch effort. i remember being brand new at this, and had these negative posts happened to me on my first trys, i know that i would have not continued creating. i was not prepared to watch it happen to others...in the end i decided i'd only be out 20 dollars if i were exiled for the thread, but at least i would be able to sleep at night.

a little extreme? yes. but this is something i'm passionate of, there aren't many things in my life i can say that about.

regardless, all appologies for the thread. believe me when i say that the intentions were good.

I agree. Especially when they are leaving comments like 'I would never download this garbage, etc'. At the very least they should have to download it in order to comment. Now if we could figure out how to booby-trap the download should they leave some smart azz comment...

ShantyTowne ...checked yours...from the email...and it was not 'actionable'...that is it was not actually insulting or a personal attack, so it remained.  We do not clear-fell or run rough-shod over people's comments.  They 'need' to deserve removal.

Phoon ...no dramas...'twas mild...

scion2412 ...sometimes the best intentions do not result in the best actions.  You're not the only one 'passionate' about this community....it's essentially the driving force behind most here...from Frogboy all the way down to the 'newbie' who sets Wincustomize as his home page...

dj_cityboy   ... grafitti  is not even a modern artform....check your history books.

It's as old as tattooing...however the BIG DIFFERENCE is tattooing is usually how can we call it....COMMISSIONED BY THE OWNER OF THE SKIN.

Grafitti is simply culturally-explained urban degradation and MOST [not all] is NOT sanctioned by the owner of the 'skin' aka property/building.

Unlike other forms of 'art', shitloads of money is spent removing grafitti...hardly an indicator that it is actually endorsed or appreciated.

None of this means there are no skillful users of spraycans out there destroying private property at the owner's expense.  There are....some.

There also probably are skillful burglars and thieves out there too...plying their trade.

Doesn't make it right, though.

Okay then, thanks for the explaination. I understand now. Sorry you didn't like "Sheared Vista".

I suppose it's all in the way one interprets those negative comments. If you take them seriously, then they are serious. If you take them negatively, then they are negative. If you take them with a grain of salt, then they are nothing but salty. And therefore worthy of throwing over one's shoulder.

Check out comment number three. I've had plenty of possitive comments plus a combination of average to above average rankings for all of these comPewter icons.Link

If all coments were like comment number 3, then I'd look seriously into re-evaluating my work and contribution to the community. However, I consider this negative comment a mere interuption. Nothing more.
