ATI ornVidia....from what I've read they both have their good/bad points depending on the info source. These are the 2 most popular brands, right? I mean, is this like comparing Dell, HP, and Gateway..or are they really apple and oranges??

I need a new card and I gotta know.

I've used only two cards. ATI 9200, barely adequate, and a BFG NVidia 5500, reasonable. I only have PCI so my choices are limited. If it makes a difference BFG has a lifetime replacement, no questions asked policy.

Go for the ATI's.  They almost always review better than Nvidia.

I've been partial to ATI, mostly because I've had good experience with them on two of my PCs (though I still haven't found a good set of Linux drivers for my server running an old ATI Rage card.)

I recently installed and nVidia card on my kids' PC, and it seems to perform with no trouble, so I think it all boils down to personal preference.

I am petitioning that a study be done to determine which is the best.

Po - they're both good. Base your decision on price and looks.......as in all things when all else is equal, take home the 'pretty' one.

What's bet between nVidia and ATI has allways been alternating. 2-3 years ago when I was using the newsservers the ATI cards had an advantage when it came to the StarDock application because the ATI drivers had better perpixel support. It made a perticulary difference with WindowsFX and transitions. Not sure how the situation is now though. I still have an ATI card on my desktop and a nVidia card on my laptop. Both works fine. For desktop customazation though. For gaming the laptop isn't powerful enough.

I don't think it matters if you go for ATI or nVidia. Either way you will get a good graphics card.
