Go into the Control Panel into the add/remove programs list. You printer software should be listed in there somewhere. Just remove it as you would any other software.
Then righ-click My Computer and select Properties. From there select "Device Manager". Find you printer and uninstall the driver from there.
Then just download the latest software from the HP website.
If it is a straight forward printer - i.e., a "printer" only, and the following is true:
1 - You have no need of the HP image editing, and utility software that usually accompanies the printers.
2 - You have the installation disc with drivers on it.
You could uninstall as recommended by the good people above > reboot with printer connected and powered up > go back to Device Manager > right-click the printer listed (it will probably have a yellow question mark by it) > select "Update Driver" > select "No, not this time" to a prompt for connection to Windows Update (if it displays) > select "Install the software automatically, and insert the installation disc with drivers in CD drive before clicking "Next" > click "Next", and wait a few seconds for Windows to show a list of the drivers found on the disc > accept the recommended (selected) driver > install driver.
After the driver installation is complete, you will click "Finish" - at this point, wait at least 10 - 20 seconds to see if the HP software attempts to begin preparing to install, and click the "Cancel" button to stop the software installation. If you take the software disc out before insuring that the software does not attempt to install, you will receive a few error messages - which won't hurt anything, but can be confusing.
This procedure will install the printer drivers, and you will be able to utilize the "Printer Properties" for any general printer configurations. I do this with my HP deskjet 6122, and it works great.
| I just got an email response from HP and they said it was fine to use msconfig to stop hpcmgr.exe from loading. So far it's working but it's an all in one printer, it has a scanner stuff like that. |
If you find that uninstalling/reinstalling your HP software becomes necessary, you may need to disconnect from the net and disable any AV/firewalls you have installed. It is also a good idea to physically disconnect the 'all-in-one' from your PC and reboot to reset everything before reloading the software.
I have a 1210 series all-in-one and found the software would not completely reload unless all these step were taken first. I spent several frustrating hours on it before yrag assisted me with this advice in the forums here
Best of luck with it
Just uninsall your existing driver. unplug the printer. reinstall driver and plug and go.
Good luck
