Music Review: DHT & Edmee "Someone"

DHT & Edmee

Someone
Album: Listen To Your Heart
Year: 2005

Edmee longs for her crush to be her boyfriend in the shrill "Someone."

A hyper piano and a windy synthesizer open the single, setting a familiar tone. Underneath a synthesizer, Edmee's says she hopes to date her crush one day.
"I wish I was your someone."

A rackety synthesizer thrashes during the first verse. She says she is incapable of doing anything, like eating and sleeping. She mostly irritable and cries a lot. Her dreams are much more vivid and real.
"You can't eat, you can't sleep, you can weep when you love someone/Feels extreme when you dream, and you scream when you love someone."

In the pre-chorus, she feels certain that he will fall in love with her one day. She's imagined the whole relationship in her mind already.
"If you feel that strong/Can you see that you're the one/If you feel that strong/Let me be your."

The piano becomes sentimental for the chorus. She wants to wrap herself in his arms and boost his self-esteem all the time. She wants to his so badly. She hopes to comfort him when he's going through tough times. She hopes to be the one person he's been searching for all his life.
"Someone to hold you tight/Someone to make you feel all right/Every day and night/I wish I was your someone/Someone to hold you when you're weak/Someone to make you feel complete/Every day and night/I wish I was your someone."

The rackety synthesizer returns for a headache-inducing solo and for a repeat of the chorus.

The hyper piano and Edmee's electro vocals are repeated.
"I wish I was your someone."

She says will be aggressive in pursuing him. Once she has him interested in her, he won't forget her.
"Don't you know, I will go, if you show that I can break through/Feels extreme when you dream, and you scream when you love someone."

The pre-chorus is sung again.

The obnoxious synthesizer returns for the chorus.

DHT needs to study the early 80s synth bands to learn how to make a decent dance song. His use of the synth is uneducated and criminal. It's overpowering and much too fast for the song. It causes Edmee to sound like she's singing in slow motion.

The single tries to be both a ballad and a speedy dance song. However, without any buildup (particularly after the first time the chorus is sung), the sudden tempo change is jarring.

"Someone" is the sticky, used gum on the bottom barrel of dance music.
