Don't Bother
Album: Oral Fixation, Vol. 2
Year: 2005
Shakira's crush chose another woman over her in the emphatic "Don't Bother."
The guitar murmurs in the background, setting a scornful tone. Shakira comments that the other woman is charismatic and can prepare the most obscure, elegant dish. She's also thin without an ounce of cellulite or the aid of plastic surgery. She's been educated from kindergarten through college at the finest instuitions. She's fluent in French and has a group of friends that are all equally fashionable and well-bred. She's sought-after and popular everywhere she goes.
Also in the first verse, Shakira says she is mediative. She wouldn't openly criticize Shakira in front of her. She's from an important upper-class family while he's just a regular, white-collar guy. Shakira can't compete with any of her attributes.
In the chorus, Shakira tells him not to even pretend to care about her feelings. It's not the first time a guy has said he's liked her and then dumped her for someone else. She says he's not worth shedding tears for. She doesn't want him to patronize her by saying "well, if things were different." She'll get over him. She notes that eventually he will see the flaws in her and regret his decision.
Shakira brings up their past liasion in the second verse. He said he loved the softness of her caresses. It's something she knows the other woman won't be able to do. She says the woman is tall. The woman may think she may be easy to squash. However, Shakira notes that she's crafty and will persevere.
After the chorus is a spoken bridge. Shakira says for him she would leave behind the family she loves and live in a war torn country. However, he would have to join her. She would pay careful attention not to hurt him. She diet away her curves and take the time to watch his favorite sport. She would do it only if were to break up with the other woman. But he has no intention of doing so.

"She’s got the kind of look that defies gravity/She’s the greatest cook/And she’s fat free/She’s been to private school/And she speaks perfect French/She’s got the perfect friends/Oh isn’t she cool."

"She pratices Tai Chi/She’d never lose her nerve/She’s more than you deserve/She’s just far better than me."

"Hey hey/So don’t bother/I won’t die of deception/I promise you won’t ever see me cry/Don’t feel sorry/And don't bother/
I’ll be fine/But she’s waiting/The ring you gave to her will lose its shine/So don’t bother, be unkind."

"I’m sure she doesn’t know/How to touch you like I would/I beat her at that one good/
Don’t you think so?/She’s almost six feet tall/She must think I’m a flea/I’m really a cat you see/And it’s not my last life at all."
