I Feel The Magic
Album: Belinda
Year: 1986
Belinda Carlisle is in love with an angel in the nostalgic "I Feel The Magic."
She "oohs" over hearty, chiming guitars, setting an innocent tone.
Earlier in the day, Carlisle had a tough day. Nothing seemed to go right. It caused her self-esteem to plummet. When she went to sleep, she said a prayer to her angel and asked him for advice. As she dreamed, he comforted her. He's real to her and someone she is falling for.
In the chorus, she says that she feels him around her. She pretends that his essence has been with her for years instead of recently. He is guiding and supporting her. She can't live without his presence.
The next day, she is alone again. She takes a walk to mull some life-changing decisions. However, she has a surge of confidence. It's as though she could do anything. She's liberated from her insecurity and has a sense of belonging.
After the chorus is a keen saxophone solo.
The last half of the second verse is sung again.
The chorus is sung once, acapella and with only the quiet strumming of the guitar.
The chorus is sung twice with full accompiant.
"I Feel The Magic" is one of the best example of Motown-inspired pop released during the 80s. The music instrumentation recalls the days of poodle skirts, greasers and classic cars.

"Last night I gave up on myself/I hit the bed, tell me what should I do/And in a dream I saw your face/It's more than just a face/You make me want to give my heart away."
In the chorus, she says that she feels him around her. She pretends that his essence has been with her for years instead of recently. He is guiding and supporting her. She can't live without his presence.
"I feel the magic/Like I never felt before/I imagine that it's always been there/I feel the magic/
There's an angel looking after me/Angel baby give me more and more."
The next day, she is alone again. She takes a walk to mull some life-changing decisions. However, she has a surge of confidence. It's as though she could do anything. She's liberated from her insecurity and has a sense of belonging.
"Today I woke up by myself/I hit the streets I wondered what should I do/I never noticed from the start/That I could feel alive again/That I could feel a part of."
