Windowblinds of WindowFX may have messed up my icon transparency?

I've been using the most current versions of Windowblinds and WindowFX. A while ago, I uninstalled these applications, but have since discovered that I cannot use the Windows XP setting for making the text on desktop icons transparent. I'm not running ActiveDesktop, I don't have my icons "locked", and I do have the setting for "use drop shadows on icon labels on desktop" checked.

Does anybody know how to get the icon label transparency working again under WindowsXP without having to use WindowFX? Does anybody know what registry setting WindowFX alters that turns on the transparency?

Thanks!

Have you tried unchecking the drop shadow setting, applying, resetting the drop shadow setting and applying?

Registry settings for this and the other effects seem easily modifiable on first glance: hklm\software\microsoft\windows\explorer\visualeffects

But editing these settings has as much effect as editing the settings for folder views (futile).

If it were either WB or WFX that caused the problem, were you to reinstall and then uninstall the program, your issue should be resolved.
