Aww, bless your heart. I actually skimmed your article as I was getting things going this morning. I was thinking...hmmm...this is a bad omen. Maybe I shouldn't get my hair cut today. Hehe.

I'm sure you look fabulous, though, dharma. You have the face and body to pull off a short cut. It will just take some getting used to. More than anything, I think you're probably upset because you don't look "like yourself"...hair cuts sometimes have a way of doing that.

PS - I'm still working on the knitting thing. I'm doing something, but I'm not sure it's actually knitting. I did find out today that one of Adrian's friend's wife knits, so maybe she can help me.

That's going to be the biggest help you can have. If she can take your hands and show you how to move them and the needles so that you make a stitch...that's EXACTLY what you need. I'm glad you're still trying, though!

I can definitely understand that. I tend to build up really high hopes for things, even minor ones, and the disappointment when it doesn't meet your expectations can hit you really hard.

Yeah, I really think it will help. I've looked the pictures and read the instructions over and over...Adrian even tried to do it, and then declared it "rocket science", haha...but I just can't seem to figure it all out.

I'll try and try and then drop it for a week or two...then try again...hoping that it'll somehow click. I'm going to make a damn scarf if it kills me.

Well, I've made samplers and pictures to hang on the wall, christmas tree ornaments, you can use it to embroider clothing, pillows, bitchin' afghans.............

You can even do photographs. You scan a picture onto your computer, and plug it into a program, and it spits it back out in a counted cross-stitch pattern. I wanted to do one of a sweet picture I have of my mustang. Not for beginners though.

Cross-stitch is slow, but it kills time well, and a lot of the time I'll do it while I'm watching movies.

I have plenty of time. What I don't have is aptitude. Although if it's easier than knitting, count me in. Perhaps I can baby step my way into knitting scarves and wrist bands.

The rules are simple. First rule, you don't talk about fight club. Second rule, you don't talk about fight club.

Get ya something small and basic to learn your first one on. That way you're not cussing and pulling an hour's worth of stitches back out 'cause you jacked it up by like two spaces or put things where you didn't mean. At least, not as much. At places like hobby lobby they sell these neat little kits for anywhere from 5 to 10 bucks that have everything included but the 3 dollar hoop.

You'll screw up, and cuss, and have to pull some back out, a few times, but when you do your next one, you'll know how to do it without making pulls in the fabric, or having your damn threads come out on ya. Think of it as therapy.

My first one was about six inches across and took me two weeks. My next one was a red dragon I did on and off for about a year, but it's frickin' huge, and very very complex.

Typically though, I spend anywhere from a month to three months on a project. But when you've got the backstitch in and a frame around it it's worth it. "You made THAT???!!!" They're impressive as hell.

I don't have very many finished ones here right now. I keep giving the damned things away, plus most cross-stitchers always have several unfinished ones they bounce between. I'll figure out where I stuck my pictures though and see if I can post a couple of my pieces on here.

There's all kinds though, funny, artistic, homey, devotional, if it can be done graphically, it can be done cross-stich....if you've got the patience. If you want to see a designer I think does some particularly beautiful (and F@$#ing hard) pieces, google Teresa Wentzler.

By the way, my geeky overenthusiasm for it isn't showing, is it? And I am available for technical support.

That boy got skills! To be truthful, I might have said that same thing to Amanda the other night, except it wasn't cereal but mac and cheese. I think that he deserves a bowl with extra marshmallows for that comment, don't you! : )
