Objection (Tango)
Album: Laundry Service
Year: 2002
Shakira is involved in a love triangle in the gutsy "Objection (Tango)"
A prim tango opens the single. It leads into a tart guitar. Shakira does not beget the woman's . attractiveness. However, the woman has ruined any possible romantic relationship between Shakira and her guy friend. Her guy friend cannot stop talking about the woman. He goes on about her chestnut brown tresses, sparkling eyes, slender legs that go on for days, etc. Shakira compliments him and gives him her brightest smile. But it's all for naught. He responds by snubbing her and continues to talk about the beautiful woman.
In the chorus, Shakira protests that she's tired of being rejected by him. She's loved him for a long time, even though she doesn't have to. Every time, he's chosen some random girl over her. She doesn't need the drama and the mind games. She finds herself sobbing and wondering why he doesn't like her. She decides to cut him out her life completely.
She tells him he's blinded by her well-endowed breasts, which are obviously implants. She can't and won't compete with a false sense of beauty. She informs him that there's more to women than an ample chest and perfectly round butt. She adds that he needs to grow up and face reality.
She adds that intrepreting his nuances, paying attention to her words and actions as well as observing the women's has become mentally exhausting.
In the bridge, she tells him she wanted things between them to be different. She had hoped he would figure out he has feelings for her.
She raps that the triangle is immature and humorous for people in their 30s. It's cruel for him to lead her on. She tells him he can't it both ways. He can manipulate and pull the strings. However, he loses her friendship in the process.
The chorus ends the single.
Shakira refusal to be anyone but herself in "Objection (Tango)" is empowering. She's realized the guy is only looking for a Barbie doll and keeps her around to boost his confidence. She gives him a piece of her mind and then dumps him. It's an anomaly to find women in pop music who stand up for themselves and own their shortcomings.

"It's not her fault that she's so irresistible/But all the damage she's caused is unfixable/Every twenty seconds you repeat her name/But when it comes to me you don't care/If I'm alive or dead, so."
In the chorus, Shakira protests that she's tired of being rejected by him. She's loved him for a long time, even though she doesn't have to. Every time, he's chosen some random girl over her. "Objection/I don't want to be the exception/To get a bit of your attention/I love you for free and/I'm not your mother/But you don't even bother/Objection/I'm tired of this triangle/Got dizzy dancing tango/I'm falling apart in your hands again/
No way/I've got to get away."

"Next to her cheap silicone I look minimal/That's why in front of your eyes I'm invisible/But you've got to know small things also count/Better put your feet on the ground/And see what it's about, so."
She adds that intrepreting his nuances, paying attention to her words and actions as well as observing the women's has become mentally exhausting.
""Objection/I don't want to be the exception...Objection/The angles of this triangle/Got dizzy dancing tango/I'm falling apart in your hands again/No way/I've got to get away."
In the bridge, she tells him she wanted things between them to be different. She had hoped he would figure out he has feelings for her.
"I wish there was a chance for/You and me/I wish you could find our/Place to be/Away from here."
She raps that the triangle is immature and humorous for people in their 30s. It's cruel for him to lead her on. She tells him he can't it both ways. He can manipulate and pull the strings. However, he loses her friendship in the process.
"This is pathetic/And sardonic/And sadistic/And psychotic/Tango is not for three/Was never meant to be/But you can try it/Rehearse it/Or train like a horse/But don't you count on me/Don't you count on me boy."
The chorus ends the single.
