Tyler Hilton

How Love Should Be
Album: N/A
Year: 2005

Tyler Hilton is fed up with his noncommital girlfriend in the acceptable "How Love Should Be."

Hilton asks his girlfriend to settle down. He fell for her and had worried about her breaking up with him suddenly. It's been bothering him for some time. But he finally gathers the courage to talk about it with her.
"Mobile woman, buckle down your boots/If you leave me, what else can I do?/Well I've been a dancer, I’ve been a dancer all my life/But I'm not dancing ‘round this one tonight/And I know I'd be doing fine."

He issues her an ultimatum. If she stays and doesn't bolt, he will be able to give himself fully. Otherwise, they are just wasting time.
"Without you believin’ in always picking up and thinking about leaving/Once you stick around then that's when I'll show you happiness the world can see/
That's how love should be."

He explains he's not going insist she stay. Dating her has changed him. He no longer is romantic or kind as he was first. She's not the girl for him and he could find someone else.
"I'm not asking, I'm not on my knees/But I'm not quite the knight I used to be/And I know I'd be better off."

In the bridge, he's been preparing for their break-up. He needs her to confirm what he's been feeling for a while.
"I know I'm ready for what's the hard part/I'm being honest baby if you’re right at home I'm moving on."

The chorus is repeated twice.

Hilton's self-importance is gone in "How Love Should Be." Hisgruff vocals are unrecongnizable. "How Love Should Be" seems to be attempt to seperate himself from his rock snob alter ego on "One Tree Hill." He's developing into a singer with promise.
