Music Review: Ying Yang Twins "Wait (The Whisper Song)"

Ying Yang Twins

Wait (The Whisper Song)
Album: U.S.A. (United State of Atlanta)
Year: 2005

The Ying Yang whisper smutty thoughts into a woman's ear in the icky "Wait (The Whisper Song)."

A seemingly out of tune bass and finger snaps open the single, creating a cheap, sordid tone.

Kaine breathes a greeting to the unsuspecting woman and gets into her personal space. He then tells her she has a fantastic body and a nice butt. He asks if he could grab it to see if his assumptions are true. He laughs off of his creepiness, saying it was a joke and didn't mean it. He adds that he has a reputation for being a freak in the bedroom. He's hungry for sex and asks her for it. He demands that she go with him, upping the sexual predator factor. He tells her he will be the best she ever had. He brags that he's endowed. "Hey how you doin lil' mama? Lemme whisper in your ear/Tell you something that you might like to hear. You got a sexy ass body and your ass look soft/Mind if I touch it and see if it's soft/Naw I'm jus playin' unless you say I can/And I'm known to be a real nasty man/And they say a closed mouth don't get fed/So I don't mind asking for head/You heard what I said, we need to make our way to the bed...So you can see what you've been missin'/You might had some but you never had none like this/Just wait til you see my d***"

In the chorus, he repeats that he's endowed. " Ay bitch! Wait til you see my d***/Wait til you see my d***/Ay bitch! wait til you see my d***..." Kaine is nonchalant as he calls a woman he barely knows a bitch. It's disturbing to hear a man be comfortable with misogny.

Dr. Roc hisses as Kaine repeats "Like B-AM, B-AM, B-AM, B-AM, B-AM, B-AM, B-AM, B-AM, B-AM, B-AM, B-AM, B-AM, B-AM, B-AM, B-AM, B-AM."

After an unprintable section, D-Roc takes the second verse. Kaine "Ooohs" in the background.

Kaine mumbles that he wants to sleep with her. He references the obscene "skeet" (which like Dave Chappelle said, you don't want to know what the word means.) He compares sex to hurting an animal, specifically a cat. While the real meaning is still conveyed, a violent metaphor using sex is unacceptable and inhumane. The rest of the verse is unprintable. "You fine, but I ain't gone sweat ya/See I wanna f***, tell me what's up...Wanna skeet skeet you bout to get your feelin's hurt/Cuz I'll beat dat cat with a dog..."

After the chorus, Kaine's "Ooohs" again to close the song.

"Wait (The Whisper Song)" is like an obscene phone call - short, intrusive, and nasty. At 2:40, it's still too long. Listeners are better off spending their two and a half minutes discovering Elastica or the Bangles.

I like the rythym of this song. It's pretty unusual to me and makes it attractive in how it plays out (the sound). I knew they must be saying some dreadful things and couldn't understand because they're so muffled in what they say. So it was eye opening to read the words here.

I didn't get what your feelings are for this song though. What's your opinion of it? I will add that they are a clever pair who knows what will sell! And the teenagers just sop it all up like sponges.
