Can YOU Be Nice For ONE Week?

I have a challenge for all of us here on JoeUser. It's not a complex challenge with a lot of rules, and hopefully it shouldn't be too hard to meet (at least I hope not).

So here's the challenge:
For one full week, Sept 28th - Oct 5th, do not post any mean or nasty or hateful articles. This means anything insulting the left, or the right, or religion, or a political figure. Do not attack other users for their beliefs, do not insult anyone because they disagree with you (in both articles and comments). Take a page from Thumper and stick with the "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all"

In recent weeks, we've all gotten down-right nasty and vile towards one another, slinging insults and being jerks in general for no real good reason (I'm sure we all think we're justified, but in reality we're probably not).

So, can you go one week without posting anything mean or angry? Can you go one week without insulting entire sides of the political spectrum? Can you go one week without assaulting religion? Can you go one week without assaulting each other? Can you avoid all of that for one week and STILL post articles and comments?

I ask this because I wonder sometimes what some of us would do if we couldn't post our angry rants. Do some of us have anything to contribute aside from rage and self-righteousness to this site? I don't know honestly... and I'd like to find out.

I already saigned MM's peace pledge, but I'll go for yours too.  I do have a question, though:  if I'm attacked by someone who hasn't agreed to not be mean, can I defend myself?

Andrew - Sorry to hear that.

dharma - I'd like to see people take the high road and just ignore the jerks who decide to keep attacking. Most of those here who like to go after other bloggers do so because it gets a reaction, which generates attention, and thus points. Starve the trolls, cut off the one thing that keeps them going (attention) and maybe they'll leave. Now, there's nothing wrong with deleting insulting or nasty comments on your articles.

That was going to be my next question. In the past few weeks I've deleted some comments...guess I'll just keep doing the same.

Nice thought but I don't really blog to be nice. Mainly I use it to vent. I don't think I will make it unless I simply don't post until Oct 5.

Hi All,

Been away for a while, slipped in some last week and scrolled thru, Shhheesh,some of ya'll have been an ugly nasty, cruel, bunch !!!!

I'm looking forward to all of the puppy dog and butterfly post....( both taste good with brown gravy )

what the hell is wrong with you zoomba? i suppose it's too much to ask that consider others instead of yourself, but if you'd come up with this hare-brained scheme exactly one year ago this week, you wouldn't have excluded at least one joeuser who woulda been able to succeed (cuz i...i mean he...was pretty much outta touch for a whole month).

my advice: if you can't suggest this kinda idea in a timely fashion, keep it to yourself, ya thoughtless jerk.
