Going On A TAIR!

Next week, I'm going on a TDY trip to my hometown, Cleveland, Ohio for to take part in a TAIR trip. TAIR stands for Total Army Involvement in Recruiting. I'll spend the week going around to schools and trying to sell the Army and more specifically, the Defense Language Institute. I'm looking forward to it. I mean, free trip home and a week away from the office! Woohoo!

Sounds fun. Yeah, DLI's cool, but then ya know, like they've gotta go be linguists. And Camp Essayons or Ft. Hood/Campbell/Drum are cruel things to do to anyone.

Sorry I missed you posting this. They've been tasking our unit for TAIR as well... they cancelled SGT Monobrow's trip due to Rita's projected path, though. (No rain here, by the way.)
Two SPCs are on one now, and they have another slotted for December (for one SGT).

It's an odd thing, especially that they're tasking our Arabic linguists when we certainly have better things to do with them...

Well, the TAIR Trips we're tasked with are 5 days long at the most and the payoff can be pretty good. From just talking to the recruiters this week, a lot of them have no clue about the role of Army linguists. From just sitting in on my talks with the students, they now have more information. So, even if the leads are thin in the schools I visit, now the recruiters are armed with more info, too.

Of course, not being out in the force right now, I don't know how precious an Arabic linguists time is at the home unit, either. We're spread pretty thin in all the school houses right now, but a 5 day trip won't kill us.
