But I am not proud

http://www.cnn.com/2005/US/08/16/computer.frenzy.ap/index.html

With appologies to all teachers who read this, there is a reason not everyone is a teacher!  But unfortunately, have worked in education, I can tell you that there is a great bigotry against anyone who is not a teacher in that profession.  I was subjected to it when I worked there.

But there comes a time in most people's lives when they realize they are in over their head.  Perhaps it is when you want to rebuild that Hemi, pull a bad tooth, bypass an artery, or even Build your own computer!

And for most people, they call for help.  And so most sane rational people would think that everyone would do that.  But most sane rational people have never dealt with School Division Administrators (Commonly referred to as burnt out teachers by those in the know).

And so these doofuses of dumb pulled a boner, and people were injured (fortunately none seriously).  At least no deaths right?

This particular school system has a lot more iBooks for sale.  I would hope they get a modicum of intelligence between now and the next sale.  But I am not going to hold my breath on it.

In the words of the idiot-savant, Forrest Gump - Stupid is as Stupid does.

So much for School Administrators.

I'm not sure who I'm more appalled at: the people who would trample over a child's stroller to get a "bargain" or the administrators and police who just let the chaos ensue rather than get some bodies out there to marshal the crowd!

The school district should have thought of a better way to sell them...I did read somewhere that they were giving preference to school aged kids (from primary to college). I say they should have asked students and parents to apply; afterwards, they could have conducted a lottery to randomly pull out names...better than people going crazy and hurting each other over a computer.

People who got crazy can't blame the school, but themselves. People who were bruised can blame those who bruised them, not the school.

I dont blame the police.  They were not prepared for the onsluaght due to the incompetance of the administrators.  Evnetually, they had 71 officers there (there are only about 100 on duty throughout the county at any one time).  Just not at the beginning.

Lottery.

That is the understatement of the year.

They are actually giving precedence to graduating seniors.  All other Middle and HS children have one that the county issued.  The way it was to work is that any student could buy their notebook once they graduated.  Many chose not to (many colleges do not want Macs for incoming Freshman).  They did the students last week.  These were left overs.

No, the School system is going to get the blame for piss poor planning.  The Lawyers are already circling in the water over this fiasco.

I had mentioned this to Simon when I first heard about it a few weeks ago, because He's a huge Apple fan and would have loved one of those laptops. He considered taking a morning off work to go see if He could get one, and I was supposed to remind him about it the day before.

He would not have qualified.  I was thinking of getting one for a friend who is moving to MD (for her son), but when I heard there were already hundreds of people in line (at 5:30) and some had gotten there at 1:30, I decided to skip it.

All for a notebook that may stop working tomorrow.

Yea, I saw where eBay even has some t-shirts on that now!  At least someone is making money off of this.
