Paula Abdul lusts for her lover in the doting "Rush Rush."

Tender keyboards and subdued drums open the single. Abdul compares his soft touch to an airy, summer day. One kiss on her mouth can soothe her. Her metaphors are her way of expressing her love. She's going to try to explain her emotions. "You're the whisper of a summer breeze/You're the kiss that puts my soul at ease/What I'm saying is I'm into you/
Here's my story, and the story goes."

She wants to reciprocate the amount of love he has given her in the pre-chorus. She aims to do all that she can to prove she loves him as much as he does. "You give love, you get love and more than heaven knows/You're gonna see/I'm gonna run, I'm gonna try/I'm gonna take this love/Right to ya/All my heart, all the joy/Oh baby, baby please."

In the chorus, she tells him to dash to her to side and make love to her. He excites her, leaving her breathless. "Rush, rush/Hurry, hurry lover, come to me/Rush, rush/I wanna see, I wanna see ya/Get free with me/Rush, rush/I can feel it, I can feel you all through me/Rush, rush/Ooh what you do to me."

In the second verse, she tells him she likes him as he is. He can never be too close to her. If he's not enclosing her in his arms, she gets upset and clingy. She's addicted to his touch. "And all I want from you is what you are/And even if you're right next to me/You're still too far away if I'm not inside your arms/I get dramatic baby, yes I know/But I need you, I want you/Oh man, I love you so."

After the pre-chorus, the chorus is sung twice.

In the bridge, she's breathless and tingly as he kisses her body. He's the only man who's been able to give her an orgasm. "When you kiss me/Up and down/Turn my senses all around/Oh baby, oh baby/I don't know/Just how or why/But no one else/Has touched me/So deep, so deep,/So deep inside."

A dainty violin solo follows, creating an elegant, dinner-by-candlelight tone.

The pre-chorus is sung again as well as the chorus. Abdul "na na na's" as the background singers sing "rush, rush" to end the single.

The sensual "Rush Rush" is Abdul's finest ballad. Unlike the previous songs, the single is made to fit her limited range. It's also her most adult single. In it, she's involved in a monogamous relationship and feeling desires she wasn't aware she had.
