This is the part of the experiement of the henrico School Board, and the paid agent of Apple who ripped off the county for no gain but his own pocket.

They switched to Dell, so they are dumping their old iBooks!  Out of Warranty, the only thing they guarantee is that they are working when you buy them!

750mhz (local radio guy said 750 mb!  What a putz!).  OSX (If I had to guess, I would say 10.2.x.

Catch #2:  They have been used by teens for the last 4 years!

I will pass.  Unless someone really wants one.

I really want one very much. Only problem is I don't have the means to get to the east coast.

Sorry about that.  My wife wants one as well, so I may be standing in line.

Do you live there?

Right next door.

If I lived nearby I'd grab one, but Richmond is a bit of a hike for an iBook.

People are flying from CA? After the plane ticket, they're paying more for a 4yr old iBook than they would off of eBay.

It's ok. You guys just sit tight. I'm getting my pants on as we speak.

I have no way to get one.

The latest is they have already received 1500 inquiries (and the sale is not for another 2 weeks), so I am going to talk my wife out of it!  I dont need to face a mad house crowd of thousands vying for a few.

You might want to wait.  This is just the first sale.  The county bought about 11k of them for the students.  At the end of their school days, the students have the option of buying them or just turning them in.  Since most Colleges strongly recommend Wintel, the students are dumping them.  I expect a lot more sales in the months ahead.

Ignorance is bliss KoolKat. Don't knock it till you try it.

Fifty is decent for a shiny coaster. I'm kidding, of course. At very least, an iBook is a decent file server at that price. Expensive plaything, perhaps.

Why would anyone want to actually pay for a Mac? Jeeze . . . I'd only take one if it was free . . .

These are running OSX which is a Unix kernel.  You can play with Unix at least.

New, these are not bad machines.  I dont know how these used ones will be tho.  They only guarantee they work when you pick them up, not that they will for long after that.

The only knock I have against Macs are their price.  Since OSX 10.1, they have been very solid computers.

I picked up a Performa 560 for $25 and it's perfect for my 2 and 5 year old. One button, small footprint, easy OS (7.6), not deletign my files anymore . . . what more can you ask?

I have a G4 too (OS X 10.3) . . . almost never use it though. It's a good computer but my PC does everything I could want. And if I want to play with Linux, Ubuntu Live CD!

I have a superMax 180.  For the same reason.  It wont run OSX, but then my sons dont want to follow in pa's footsteps.

A program that once promised to be one of the largest educational laptop deployments ever now appears to have been scrapped following a court ruling and announcement by the school board. Cobb County, Georgia was to receive more than 63,000 iBooks for both students and teachers across the district.

The decision by Superior Court Judge S. Lark Ingram said that money received through a special tax fund called the Special Purpose Location Option Sales Tax, or SPLOST, were only approved by voters to replace obsolete computers, not fund a program to give laptops to students and teachers.

Shame Someone did not sue Henrico county before they wasted our money.
