Full Moon
Album: Full Moon
Year: 2002
While Brandy is hanging out at the club with her girlfriend, she spots a guy she would like to meet in the spiffy "Full Moon."
A sparkling piano opens the single, creating an after hours, delicate tone. As the first verse starts, the bass thumps along. She's drinking a Cosmo with her best friend when she sees a good-looking guy walk into the club. His friends are around, surveying the dancefloor. She watches him as he waves down a drink and talks with his friend. His confidence impresses him. A friend of the guy she's crushing on tells him he's being checked out. The guy looks to see who's interested in while Brandy pretends to not to be staring. She's interested in having a conversation with him and learning what he's like. ("Boy I saw you soon as you came bouncin' through the door/You and your man's and them just look over the floor/Started doing your thing/And it made me notice you even more/The way you turned around and looked at me/It seemed as though you must have somehow felt me staring on the low/Something tells me your the kind of guy I'd like to get to know.")
In the chorus, she talks to him. She's not going to beat around the bush. She tells him she likes him and asks him if he wants to dance. She adds some cute banter about how this must be a special night. ("I ain't even gonna front/I ain't even gonna lie/Since you walked up in the club/
I've been giving you the eye/We can dance if you want/Get it crackin' if you'd like/It must be a full moon/Feels like one of those nights.")
In the second verse, she asks if he's a regular at the club or if he's a tourist looking to have fun. She tells him that his smile is giving her signals that he likes her company, too. She says they could have a meaningful relationship together. ("Is this the first time that I'm seeing you around?/
Could you be visiting or are you new in town?/And whatever the case/I'm feeling you right here and right now/Your smile and all the love you show/It lets me know that you like what you see and wanna get to know me too/And this could very well be the start of something special/
I'm happy that I met you, baby.")
After the chorus is sung twice, Brandy starts the bridge. She tells him she didn't think she find a guy of substance at the club. However. they get along well and have a lot in common. ("I didn't think that I'd come here tonight/And meet someone like you and start feeling the way I do/Seems like we've known each other most of our lives/After one conversation/This must be right.")
The chorus ends the single.
The classy "Full Moon" focuses on the meeting a significant other that would last a long time. Brandy goes to the club to unwind, not date the men who frequent it. However, she finds one who appeals to her. A majority of club songs are only about the short-term one-night stand relationships. In "Full Moon," Brandy avoids the sex drenched aspect. The single is like a "how-we-met" story, which is atypical for the genre.
