This morning I overheard a discussion between my husband and son.

Scene: Boy races into the room with his puppy (formerly known as "Puppy", who now sports a nifty black cape.)

"Hey Dad! This is Rypto the SUPER dog!"

"Rypto, huh?" (He looks at me and mouths, "where did this come from?" I could only shrug.)

"NO DAAAAD. Rypto the SUPER dog!"

"Ah. I see, he's a super dog."

"NOOOOO. RYPTO. THE. SUPER. DOG."

"Okay. Okay. Rypto the Super Dog."

"That's right."

Probably. It's a cool little show based loosely on the DC comics character Krypto. In the show, a puppy owned by a little boy on the planet Krypton is launched into space to test an escape rocket. The dog accidentally hits the controls with a ball, and a minor suspended animation effect engulfs him, and the ship autopilots him to Earth.
Once there, he befriends a little boy who just moved into a new neighborhood who doesn't have any friends yet. He has powers similar to the great hero Superman, and in fact it turns out that Superman was the little boy he used to belong to, once upon a time. Superman shows up after Krypto saves a shipload of zoo animals that was sinking, but lets the boy keep him because Supes can tell the kid needs a friend.

And that's just the first episode. It's a neat little show, and my boys like it, too. I really liked the one with Ace the Bat-Hound, too...

My kids, especially my 4 year old, loooove that show! And I have a hard time getting the theme song out of my head!
