Graphics Programs

Just interested to know your thoughts...

Hi guys. I am just making this topic to hear your opinions on Graphics Programs like Photoshop and Paint Shop Pro. I'm sure many of you use these.
I use a program called Picture It! (a Microsoft program )
It's ok i guess but I was wondering what your opinions are on these image editing programs. I find that Picture It! uses much memory on both my systems and frequently jammes upon certain operations like clone painting. What programs do you use, how much did you pay for them, and what features does it have that you find indespensable? I'm thinking about Corel Draw too after Mormegil's iconpack series, what's it like?

I started out working with the demos for Photoshop 7. It was very nice, but I just couldn't afford it back then. I went to Ebay and bought Paint Shop Pro 8 for about $30. Not as good as Photoshop, but it would get the job the done. I registered PSP 8 with Jasc and when Paint Shop Pro 9 came out, they offered the upgrade for about $45, so I bought that.

I have been using PSP 9 for a while now. I could do most things I wanted with it but I still found it a little more difficult than Photoshop. When CS2 came out I decided it was time to upgrade, so I just bought the CS2 upgrade and have had it for a few days now.

I have been reading about how Corel plans to turn Paint Shop Pro into a "photo" program, so I decided to make the switch to Photoshop.

I love Photoshop and CorelDRAW.

These programs are great for creating graphics - Photoshop for raster art, and CorelDRAW for vector art. Both include a large selection of tools to work with, and are capable of professional results.

I have PSP 8 at work, which I use a lot - but I would prefer Photoshop if it were an option.

I also use Painter 9 with my tablet, and it is another creature altogether (allows you to draw in raster art with many tools - fabulous).

I have also used Picture it! 7 Pro, and it is definitely geared towards Photo Editing and Publishing the end results.

All graphic editing programs use a lot of memory, and if the file has a lot of layers, then an entry level system will definitely slow down significantly.

All the programs I use offer 30 day (full feature) trial versions which are available by downloading from the company web site.

I use Photoshop CS and Cinema 4D CE (free) for making my skins.

Corel is vector, so if you want bitmap manipulation its not the best, for that Photoshop is. But as a overall Design Tool it is by far my favorite.
