LeAnn Rimes' best girl friend and ex-boyfriend are dating which causes her to get jealous in the cross "Big Deal."
Rimes broke up with the ex-boyfriend a couple months ago. He was a great guy and she wishes she hadn't left him. However, she's sick of her best friend rubbing it in that he's her boyfriend now. ("Well, he used to be mine/Not so very long ago/I was crazy/To ever let him get away/But, girl, you should know better/Then to go braggin' in my face/So forgive me/For what I'm 'bout to say.")
In the chorus, Rimes reminds her friend that it if it wasn't for her, she wouldn't even know he existed. She tells to stop talking about how romantic and thoughtful he is. She also tired of the conversations where her friend talks about how much in love she is. ("Big Deal, so what , who cares/You just got lucky, that's all/It was, shut up/Don't wanna hear another word about/Candle light, and long stem roses/And how you're fallin' head over heels/In love, so what, big deal.")
Rimes sneers that she knows he's the most nicest, sweetest guy ever. Her friend has told her this fact over and over again, which irritates her. She finally admits to her friend that she shouldn't have broken up with him. She thinks her confession only serves to make her friend superior to her. The snobbishness causes Rimes to rethink her friendship with the girl.("He's perfect, I heard ya/The first ten times that you told me/(Yeah, Yeah) It's amazin', his lovin'/I can't believe I let him go/I regret it, there I said it/You call yourself a friend/But you just keep rubbin' it in.")
In the bridge, Rimes scoffs that she's excited for her friend and hopes the relationship lasts forever. ("Congratulations, I'm just/So happy for you/I can't contain the way I feel.")
After the chorus, Rimes repeats "it's a real big deal" several times.
The faulty "Big Deal" is a verbal catfight. Rimes, however, lets herself gets caught up in the pettiness. Although she's trying to appear above it all, she's really not. She gets her jabs in which are not satsifying. It only magnifies the fact she's pining over her ex-boyfriend and hates her friend for dating him.
