Jeanette Jurado, lead singer of Expose, has noticed her boyfriend's distancing himself and hopes to be close to him again in the graceful ballad, "Seasons Change."
Tense percussion and grieved saxophone open the single, creating a tone. Quiet drums accompany Jurado in the verses. Jurado thinks most people express emotions or ideas while they are sleeping. But for her, her dream of repairing the relationship with her boyfriend is a constant one. In the back of her mind, she knew it was a possibility the relationship could go sour. Her boyfriend rarely has a conversation with her about his emotions. Her no longer treats her in the same loving way. The distance between them has been growing slowly, which didn't alarm her at first. She believed it was temporary. She's hoping he will be the same person he was years ago. ("Some dreams are in the night time/And some seem like yesterday/But leaves turn brown and fade/Ships sail away/You long to say a thousand words but/seasons change/It feels, like it's forever/No reason for emptiness/But time just runs away/No more day by day/
You dream and yearn and sees the day when/seasons change.")
In the chorus, she tells her boyfriend she wants to be with him and have his emotional support. She relies on him for his friendship and love. They've known each other a long time but for Jurado, it doesn't seem that long. However, their long-term relationship feels like a burden. She spends more time on her own than with him. She wishes it could be better and has become disillusioned. She knows he no longer loves her. ("Forever, seems so far away/This time full of ample play/You dream about today/Belief slips away/The wings of love they come away and/seasons change.")
In the chorus, she adds that she needs him to talk to her about what's going on inside his mind. "Seasons Change" is a striking, heartfelt ballad. Jurado is an effective, emotional vocalist. She is able to convey her heartbreak without bitterness, even though she is letdown by who her boyfriend has become. It seems as though her talk with him is the last ditch effort to understand. Expose may be known for their uptempo singles. However, the group's slower songs which deserve the most attention.
