My useless powers of precognition

or untimely subconscious recall

So last night my husband was sitting on the couch watching 'Aviator' through his headphones. From out of the blue he says, "Hey, there's that guy."

"Huh?" I wasn't even watching the movie. For one thing, he was funneling the sound straight into his own ears. Anyway, I'd just been busying myself with staring at my husband the entire time, wondering what's to come of our marriage, and how much he's got a crush on some other girl right now.

"The dad from 'The Work and the Glory.'"

"Oh." I jogged my memory back to 'The Work and the Glory' and I only remembered that the dad must have been someone noteworthy because his name was listed as one of the stars, and his face was vaguely familiar from goodness-knows-what-other-movie(s). I'd read the name on the cover of the DVD once, but it didn't ring a bell, so I forgot it and didn't really care anyway.

So this morning I've been tossing and turning since 4am because I really really needed to take a shower. I felt grimy. My brain was running full speed ahead, albeit with nothing important...so finally I got out of bed and started running the shower. I thought I saw a bug on the shower curtain (gross) so I went out in the living room to find a flashlight or something (I don't like to turn on overhead lights in the bathroom first thing in the morning because it spoils the wonder of daybreak)...couldn't find a flashlight so I threw open the curtains to let in the morning light. I saw the 'Work and the Glory' DVD case sitting there and as I picked it up the name 'Sam Hennings' crossed my mind. "Whatever that name is," I thought. Then I read the DVD case. 'Sam Hennings.'

Long story short, whenever I get those flashes of precognition, or in this case, subconcious recall just an instant before the thought is confirmed, I call it "Pointless E.S.P."

There was a SNL skit that dealt with that...with Christopher Walken I think. Although they took the idea in a stupid direction like everything they do on SNL, it must be a fairly normal phenomenon...Pointless E.S.P.

Hmmm...just a random, pointless thought. If you've read this far, I'm so very sorry.

Your subconsious mind makes the connection just before your consious mind gets the memo. People who are really good at this are said to have "good instincts". Pointless, yes, but I still love you!
