THERE ARE NO POOR IN AMERICA

The biggest enemy of the liberal democrats is a strong economy. If Americans are productive and prospering, who needs all those welfare bureaucrats? So, to eliminate the threat of diminished funding of its pay, privileges, and perks, the Washington welfare bureaucracy, led by democrats, is proposing to redefine poverty. The democrats are proposing to increase the official poverty level of income to $22,000 thereby creating an instant 35 percent increase in poverty. That way they can take credit for reducing the welfare burden on taxpayers, while in reality creating even more welfare dependents who can always be relied upon to vote leftist democrats back into office.

Poverty data democrats have released have always been a lie, a sham, and a deceit designed to fool the American public into tolerating the welfare state. Success against poverty should mean fewer people on welfare, not more. But to democratic bureaucrats, more welfare bums is a success.

America's poor live much better than middle-and upper middle-class people do in most developed countries of the world. In Japan, the average household has 0.8 persons per room, compared to .56 persons per room for America's poor, according to the government's own statistics. Even in Western Europe the average household is more crowded than the typical poor American residence. In many American cities, subsidized town houses are being built for welfare recipients that are in excess of 2,000 square feet and come completely wired with the latest computer technology.

More than 62 percent of the American poor own one or more cars, and about 15 percent own two or more. This is 40 percent higher than the automobile ownership rate of the entire population in Japan and about equal to that in England. More than 22,000 poor households have a heated swimming pool or a Jacuzzi, according to the US Department of Energy.

According to the US Department of Agriculture, America's poor do not differ substantially in the amount of food they consume compared to the upper half of the income earners. America's poor eat one-third more meat than the average German, twice as much as the British, and three times more than the Japanese. No wonder the former US Surgeon General, C. Everett Koop, is warning of an obesity crisis.

The truth of the matter is that there is simply NO POOR IN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA!!!

Oh really? Maybe you should go tell ALL the homeless people this! Not every homeless person is there because they want to be. Some are there truly because of need. And wether or not if you want to admit it....that makes them poor!

While I am no advocate of wide-spread welfare, I would certainly not be asinine enough to claim that there are no poor in America.

I know he can't be really saying there is no poor people in America. Granted the poor here live FAR better than in most of the world, but poor is poor, homeless is homeless.

We can not have starving children, have a who social class not have anyway of returning to the working class, have people who are not healthy enough to work to full ability, and so on.

I know many people do not like welfare programs, but the reality is that they are needed by many, especially children, so people can have a hope of a future.

Don't get rid of the programs, make them work better.

As for creating a higher state of poverty... no the current one is fine. just adjust for inflation. There are states where you can live on 22,000 and be fine. New York is not one of them, but New Mexico is.

' I know he can't be really saying there is no poor people in America.'
Oh yes he can! Have a read of some of Marvin's previous ravings. At least this is a change from his more frequent 'Next Tuesday morning, God will cause evil California to slide into the ocean' kind of rants. Why I bother trying to present rational rebuffs to his arguments I don't know, but anyway ...

1. 'In Japan, the average household has 0.8 persons per room, compared to .56 persons per room for America's poor, according to the government's own statistics.'
But how do you measure poverty objectively, Marvin? Space is at a premium in Japan, so the average cost of a 'room' in terms of income etc. is likely to be very many times higher there.

2. 'More than 62 percent of the American poor own one or more cars, and about 15 percent own two or more. This is 40 percent higher than the automobile ownership rate of the entire population in Japan and about equal to that in England.'
Did you mention the fact that Japan strongly discourages people from owning cars more than 5 - 6 years old by means of the 'shaken' tax? No. Did you mention the fact that there is a serious cultural stigma attached to owning anything 'used' in Japan? No.

3. But more than all this, Japanese culture and American culture are worlds apart, and you have taken no account of this. In general, Japanese people choose to live within close proximity of each other. They see it as a POSITIVE thing.

Your 'statistics' are pointless and misleading, Marvin, and your conclusion is equally wide of any kind of truth. So Americans eat more MEAT than the Japanese? Well knock me down with a feather! Try fish and you're likely to get a very different picture. Once again, your political agenda blinds you to any kind of reason.

I would be interested with each point you made a reference to where you found these particular statistics?

Don't look for Marvin to come back and discuss or debate his topic. That's not his style, people. He drops his all-caps bombs and leaves, never to return until his next rant.
