'nother drama last nite...

Last night Delizia came over for dinner at my house. And she parked her car on the drive way which is pretty stiff. Dinner went by, and we were chatting on the veranda when her car made a weird noise. We looked at each other and just shuddered. About 15 mns later, her car starts rolling down the drive way and Delizia springs on her feet, runs for her car and attempts to stop it from the back. Yeah she's crazy like that.

As a result she fell over and the car was stopped by a little bush further down the drive way. I hear a little cracking noise (the bush i suppose). She was litterally stuck under the tyre screaming in pain. I didnt know what to do. Run to the neighboors knocking on their door as hard as I could and yelling for help. Came back to the car, pressed the horn. No one's coming. I called Darren who was having dinner at Glen's and told him to get his ass over pronto cuz there had been an accident and Delizia was hurt. I grabbed a torch cuz it was dark and i couldnt see how bad she was.

I tried to push the car with all my might but couldnt get it to move one inch. It's a little Peugeot 205, but damn on a slope it's just way to heavy. And the handbreak was still pulled up. So i was pretty useless really.

I went over to her side and tried to comfort her that the guys were coming over and were gonna move the car.

She said her chest and shoulder were sore and that the car was getting to heavy on her leg, which was stuck between the tyre and a rock. She was really brave swearing alot, but real brave.

Finally they came over (Darren, Glen and Gaetan with Bina). They started asking questions and I just told them to shut up and move the car. I realize how mean I was now, but all I wanted was to get her out from under the car. My whole body was shaking and so was my voice. But they were very calm and eventually moved the car away.

i explained what happened and told them to call an ambulance cuz i didnt have the number. Luckily Glen had it entered on his mobile phone.

Meanwhile I rushed home, got her a towel to rest her head. She couldnt stand up, and remained lying on the back in pain. After 10 mns (which seemed like hours) the paramedics eventually got there. Checked her blood pressure and looked for broken bones. He thought she'd broken a rib. Gave her a dose of morphin and an inhaler thingy to ease the pain.

Bina called Delizia's Dad who came over. We took her to hospital in the ambulance. Once there we waited about an hour before we could finally get her to have an X-ray to check for internal damage. Turns out she didnt break anything thank God. She called this mornig and she said she can walk around but breathing still hurts. Got bruises all over too.

Last night I got back home at midnight and could hardly sleep. I kept thinking about what else i could have done and how i should've had a an ambulance phone number handy. Well, at least now I do.

Heh, I know...
I'm glad nothing was broken.

So am I

Yeah I know! Heh, it's like all of a sudden all of my friends have decided to be involved in car accidents!
Be careful and take care of yourself.

I will Danny, thanx. I'm looking forward to a quiet peaceful night tonight...

Ouch, your friend has guts. Do you know whether the car is an automatic or a manual? There are a couple of different reasons why this might have happened. If the car is an automatic and was left in gear, the auto fluid drains out of the gear box then the only thing stopping the car from rolling is the handbrake. If the handbrake cable is old, then there is the potential for it to snap, causing the car to roll. The other reason is simply the handbrake either slipped or the cable snapped. Either way, she is lucky she wasn't hurt worse than she was.

Despite what Danny says, it can be particularly hard to stay calm in these situations. By the sound of it, you handled yourself pretty well, all things given.

I too hope you have a better evening tonight.

Cheers,

Maso

It's a manual. She pulled the handbreak so it is possible the cable broke. It's the only explanation i think.

You can say that, again. I'm glad she's okay

I dont know about that. I was really anxious and felt really bad that it happened at my place. I know I'm not responsible, but still feel bad. I was a ball of nerves compared to the guys and the paramedics who were so zen, heh!

Yeah, I agree. Unless of course, she didn't have the hand brake on and the car slipped out of gear, which is possible. But you say she had the hand brake on so the only explanation I can think of is the cable broke.

I know some people in a situation like you encountered last night, who would run around in a blind panic and achieve absolutely nothing. Your anxiousness is natural and expected as is your guilt. I'm glad you understand you couldn't have possible been responsible. Now all you have to tell yourself is 'Stop feeling bad'.

I hope this helps.

Cheers,

Maso

You were there for your friend and you did alert help. That's all that really matters! You are a good friend!
BUT DO insist that she finds out what poltergeist got that car to move before she drives it again. I hate when machinery or computers in particular decide that they are the boss... it's just wrong!

While we will always question ourselves in retrospect about what we should have could have done, you did the right thing, and the best under the circumstances.  You got help and comforted her.  Anything else would have been window dressing based upon those 2 actions.

SHe is a lucky girl, but luck often comes from smart choices.  Hers was in having you as a friend.

I saw it was pulled up. Heh, what a piece of shit! lol

Yes Maso, you're right. I spoke to her a couple of times yesterday. She seemed alright except for the occasional 'ouch' whenever she wanted to move for something. But she said she knows she was crazy to try and stop the car, lol.

Thank you Manopeace

Haha! Her Dad picked the car from my place so it's over at her house now. But yeah, i'll tell her to get it all checked out, good idea!

You're right. It's crazy the brain activity that it provokes once it's all over though! Too much adrenaline in my system i suppose...

That's nice, thanks She also could have jumped in the driver's seat and break instead of thinking she was superwoman and could stop the car from the back

That is probably what she is regretting now.  I am sure she is kicking herself for not thinking of that at the time.

Hehe, you're totally right DrGuy. She knows now it wasnt very logical, but it was spontaneous, that's the least you can say...
