ship to ship fighting? how will it look?

One of the things that I personally enjoy the most are ship to ship battles. NOW, I love GalCiv 1, still happily playing it BUT the ship to ship battles leaves a LOT to be desired imho. I really want to see immersive battles between ships AI's, I don't necessarily have to control the ships --- kinda like how MOO2 battles were but those were still top-down 2D view although with much more graphics and actual movement of ships while in battle that GalCiv 1 did not have...

I've read most of the threads here and have heard mention of new graphics, fleet battles, etc etc etc ...
so my question is .. how will ship to ship/fleet to fleet battles look? Will we get to watch battles between ships in 3D or is it still gonna be top-down 2D view? also with fleet battles, will we see individual ships fighting or will it be a stack of ships as it is now in GalCiv 1?

Sorry, if these questions have been addressed in another thread that I failed to find.

Anyway, just really curious about ship to ship battles presently. also I'm planning on purchasing the game when I get home from work tonight and hopefully see the current beta build while we await for further news and the beta 2 build after E3 ... which is especially sad for me to think about since I just got confirmation of exhibit only tickets but is looking like I'm not gonna be
able to make it..

Well, I don't think that tactical battles will be available in Galciv II.

hmmm... so no screen like what happened in MOO2 when ships went into battles where you can actually watch the battle occuring. of any 4x space sim, that's my favorite so far.. had hoped that MOO3 would've have been better but it failed not only in that area but pretty much everywhere else as well

I'm not really looking for tactical battles where I control the ships (like you could in MOO games), I want the AI to do that for me (kinda like how in Madden NFL on the playstation, I choose the plays and then watch the outcome but never try to control the players myself ) I just wanna watch, since ship to ship fighting really happens the most here. Guess I just want to see something more robust and graphically entertaining than how ship to ship fights in GalCiv 1 look presently....

I did go ahead and buy the game last night, played with the beta for a bit before it crashed. Will play around with it more this weekend. Looking forward to watching it grow.

gj deveren!

Perhaps there could be small videos (smallllllllllllllll) of quick ship battles to describe the victor of a large battle... perhaps...
maybe...
or just a short animation of the ships firing (*cough* video *cough*)

I've been a MOO fan till 3.. anyways, I understood what you meant. I too am curious. Also as a Sci-Fi movie fan, visions of Star-Wars fleet battles come to mind..
Perhaps some Star Trek battle choreography too.. ( Enterprise vs. Klingon Birds of Prey etc.)

There won't be a separate screen as in MOO2 or MOO3, but (last I heard) you will be able to see volleys of weapons fire when you make attacks if you zoom in on a battle.

I used to play this old game called Imperium Galactica 2: Alliances. Anyone remember it? Anyhoo, the game had this great way of doing 3D battles, so that when ships battled it zoomed into a grid that showed all of the ships in the fleet and then it kinda went like the likes of Baldur's Gate and Neverwinter Nights, so you could click and drag your ships and then select a target, or select tactics and formations and let the PC blast it out for you. Ground battles worked the same way, except with tanks. It all looked very impressive and was very user friendly.

This game must be at least 5 years old now, so surely with modern technology it could be easily knocked up? I've never played any of the MoO games, so I don't know how they look. Are they worth checking out?

FrogBoy used to talk about Imperium Galactica.

IMO, MOO2 is good but old, and MOO3 is not worth the spit it takes to say its name.
