How to change your bootskin in Windows98.

Here is a program that is just like bootskin but is shareware http://www.screenbooty.com - OR you can cutomize your bootskin manually by-

1: Copy C:\WINDOWS\logos.sys logow.sys into a temporary folder.
2: Rename the ext. from .sys to .bmp
3: create a logo.bmp
4: Open one of them with your favorite image editor like Adobe Photoshop.
5: resize them to 534 x 400 pixels when you want to wrok on it
6: resize back to 320 x 400 pixels once finished. (the images should be in 256 colors to work.)
7: backup your original .sys files.
8: rename your .bmp files to .sys files.
9: replace your original .sys files with your finished files.

10: For the startup screen, edit your logo.bmp (follow 4: - 6:)
11: afterwards, copy it to your C:\

If you don't want to heve a logo screen. edit C:\MSDOS.SYS with notepad and add the line LOGO=0
you'll see what happens in dos when you boot your pc when the windows logo appears.

534x400? Why not 640x400, a clean multiple of 320x400?

Animation can only be done by palette shifting, which really isn't worth pursuing. There are a couple of apps that can do that for your though. See: http://www.virtualplastic.net/html/logo_scr.html#win9x
