Still CTD with 0.12[b].002

Still not having any success with the betas. After selecting an opponent (trying several different setups), the result is always the same. It says "Loading game..." or something similar and then crashes.

Have tried the following to no avail:
* Run in windowed mode.
* Multisample = 0 in the prefs.ini file (but this was the setting from the beginning on my system)
* Different resolutions

Sending crash logs to Scott as usual.

There are 3 things I think could be at fault (from looking at the Debug.err file)...

1. Languages: Swedish - Political Machine had troubles running on Swedish PC's IIRC.  We'll dig up the solution and see if that fixes your crash.

2. Driver Date: 11/13/2004 23:03:44 - I'm not an expert on Video Card drivers, but I have a feeling ATI may have released an update since this date.  Go to www.ATI.com and download the latest drivers.  This has been a problem for many users.

3. Display Memory: 32.0 MB - This is the minimum required video memory for the game, but perhaps we've over-shot our memory usage and these cards cant handle it.  Has anyone else with 32megs video ram had consistant crashes like this?

Sorry you havn't been able to get this resolved.  Hopefully we can get a fix for your setup soon  Let us know if the video card solution works!

1) Ah, I would be very thankful for that. Wonder why Windows XP Swedish would be a problem.

2) That is rather difficult, I'm afraid. ATI informs that in the case of notebooks (I'm using a ASUS notebook) the drivers are only available through the notebook manufacturer. And the 11/13/2004 are the latest drivers ASUS offers for my notebook from their home page.

So unfortunately these are the latest drivers available for me.

I have just installed and tried GC2 on my laptop, with CTD as a result. My laptop is an Acer Travelmate 220, with shared memory, as far as I can determin my videocard has access to the whole of RAM, witch I don't believe (sounds to strange), so I can't say how much video ram it has.
I have mailed the .cra and .err files to scott_at_stardock.com

I have an nVidia GeForce2 MX/MX 400 with 32MB that runs the game successfully. Well, it can start a game.

Oddities do happen, especially on the ship design screen, but even that's useable (sometimes takes a few tries for it not to interpret "save" as "remove life support module").

Had not even considered the video card as a possible cause. Hmm....

Same here. I have a Compaq laptop (3 year old) with a 32 MB ATI Mobile Radeon Video Card in it. The game starts and works perfectly until it CTDs when loading a new game. The most recent available drivers are from 2002 (Conpaq website). I tried the drivers form Microsoft : the game crashed before even starting.

I can send the debug files if needed, but most likely I will have to buy a new PC...
