I installed it and restarted my PC...

But guys, I don't see any difference at all, nothing at all... the directx is still the same, and all game and 3d experiance are all the same... what is the story?? I mean what si going wrong??

how can I make this Avalon work? How can I see differences? I don't want videos... I need real simple instructions for to see the binefits of this new Avalon technology...

Please talk in the simplest way possible, so that me and all could understand...

The beta is for developers, and you won't see any difference until you run an application that uses the Avalon technology.

Avalon is not the next directX. Avalon is a presentation system from Microsoft that let developers create applications in markup language and .NET.

Thomassen, so what you are saying is that Longhorn is still going to run under Directx!
but what you are saying conflects with:
1. Link

2. Link

What do you think?? I mean I'm not here to just say that someone or anyone is wrong, but what do I need is simple answers on this topic...

(NOTE: I changed my nickname from saloom to biggy_x, so it's still me talking... and paxx I'm still the old saloom, but only with new nickname )

Adding 3D to programs haven't been the easiest to do. That's what Avalon tried to fix my implementing support for 3D graphics just as easy as 2D graphics.

The source for Avalon info would be Microsofts site on avalon: http://msdn.microsoft.com/Longhorn/understanding/pillars/avalon/default.aspx
One of the article you find there talks about how Avalon support 3D
http://msdn.microsoft.com/Longhorn/understanding/pillars/avalon/default.aspx?pull=/library/en-us/dnlong/html/avalon3d.asp

Neowin.net got a nice article that explains briefly what Avalon is: http://www.neowin.net/forum/lofiversion/index.php/t111675.html

One extract from that article:
What kind of graphics support will Avalon provide?
It will take advantage of the merged graphics functionality of GDI+ and DirectX, as well as the Media Framework from the Digital Media Division as well as providing a rich vector based format with support for SVG markup language.

I'm not sure if this means it would rely on DirectX or adopts its functionality.
What I think that article meant was that new games and programs with 3D graphics will choose to use Avalon instead of DirectX. But what it said about The easiest way to describe it is the fact that Avalon is basically DX10, or "DX Next" is missleading, because Avalon first and foremost a presentation technology, not just a set of 3D APIs.

If Longhorn is going to run under DirectX? I am not sure. But I'd think there would be a version of DirectX shipped with it in any case for backward compatibility reasons.

I, now, may rest in peace...

Avalon is NOT the next DirectX. DirectX will still continue to be supported and probably be the preferred method for game development. Avalon is a declarative user interface markup language for applications. It wraps the capabilities of DirectX and GDI+ as well as new vector graphics capabilities for *application developers*. So developers can create compelling user interfaces with alot less code than it now requires.
