re poll: Would you pre-order on-line a Master of Magic 2?

:SURPRISED:
OMG!?!

Hell, I played Master of Magic 1 just half a year ago the last time lol. Its still one of my favourite turn based strategy games along with Master of Orion 2 and of course Gal Civ. ;p

I heard rumors that there were ppl working on MoM2 somewhere, but never heard anything concrete.

Id settle for MoM1 + better graphics + Multiplayer mode. ;)

So, Stardock gonna work on it?

I suggested small planar areas earlier. Not as big as Myrror but tough places, where, if you conquer the Fortress of Fire, say, you could gain substantial bonuses to your fire magic/summons and maybe a special critter. I think they're going to play it smart though and just do a basic update with a few bells and whistles for now. They can do all that totally new fun stuff when the game makes them a crapload of money so it's still worth bantering about IMO. Hell, even if don't it's still fun to banter about.

I remember playing the game when I was 12 years old. My dad had just got it installed the the Micron Computer he had just bought. Took a grand total of 5 or 6 disc to install. I ran the game into the ground, hell I even bought the release and installed in on my new computer now.

I would pre-order and tell my friends to get it too! It had better have a good random map generator. :D

Was there a problem with the old random map generator or are you just grumping at all the other games that tried to imitate without one?

I played MOM when it was first released and I still play it! it is on my top 10 all time favorite games list. I would be delighted to buy a Windows friendly version. If it had some extra goodies like multiplayer and/or a game editor, all the better!

Another suggestion for MoM2: limit spells the heroes can learn. I just played a game with 10 life books, and had Marcus the Ranger show up. He's mainly a bowman who happens to know a couple low-level nature spells. It just didn't seem right for him to be casting Prayer, Lionheart, and Healing just because he had been hired by a Life wizard.

Instead, I think the heroes should be limited to one or two colors of magic, and probably have a limit on the level of spells they can learn (Common for someone like Marcus, Uncommon for the magic-user heroes, Rare for the magic-user champions). Or maybe they could be limited to their intrinsic spells and not be able to learn any from the hiring wizard.

Just read Game Informer and found out that there may be a possibility of MOM II being created. I just have to add my $.01 and state that you can count on my pre order if you decide to create MOM II. MOM killed quite a large portion of my time, and I don't mind a MOM II doing the same thing.

*Dances for joy at the thought of Master of Magic 2 being made* And I'm glad its likely to be done by people who actually respect the fact that people play sequels because they liked the previous game. Played Lords of the Realm 3 today and was kind of flabbergasted that they made it into a RTS.

My thoughts on what MoM2 should be like

Same MoM gameplay, meaning overworld map for building, separate battle system for battles.

-Balance races (gnolls were useless)
-Hero editor
-More planes, 3 should be fine, plus smaller pocket planes.
-Better item customization
-Completely revamped diplomacy. Include borders, trade agreements, etc. Include the ability to incite war between wizards without becoming involved.
-Fix rewards, in original MoM when I'd go around with my beefed up heroes and conquer big nodes with like 4 Sky Drakes and some Djinns, I'd get like 100 gold and a +1 sword. Just because your army is so powerful that those fights are easy, doesn't mean you should get gypped out of treasure.

I disagree. Keep it as it is. You might make this an option, though. For a game with such a spell system, you can play Dominions, which is quite great.

I came to this site after reading the latest Game Informer. I would definately pre-order a copy of Master of Magic 2. The first game was amazing and a sequel would be sweet. :HOT:

Id pre-order. Where do I sned my money? I'll pre-order now if it would ensure it'll be made.

I used to dream about the first game. You know a game is good when you're dreamin about it. Of all the infinte possibilities you can be doin in your dream, and I drempt i was playin that game.

I only wish I was a 3D artist, so i could help ya all out. Dont suppose you need a helpdesk guy? :)

I would very much like to see MoM2 made, I spent many hours playing the original, I did get it to work on windows Xp :) but without any sound (:( . It does still crash sometimes, so an updated program that works would be really fun. I would also love to help test the game. I will post thoughts on features later, although keeping it mostly as it was would be good, with updated ai.

I would preorder mom2 in a minute. One of the best games of all time.

Well, I wouldn't preorder, but I'd extend my what-was-Drengin.net subscription (I think it's got some other name now) to catch it. I'd probably be after the CD this time, I don't think I could afford the bandwidth of dowloading such a game.

BTW the political machine is surprisingly fun. More fun than GC IMO. I ran Nixon against Mother Theresa, and Nixon won!

I first played Master of Magic 10 years ago at my friends place, and I loved it. It went to the back of my mind however, and years later I'm only recently re-discovering and re-"master"ing it. I would certainly preorder a MoM2. The idea of more than 2 planes of
existence is great, along with the editor ideas. If you could make it so that when built against mountain terrain, a city is impenetrable from that side during combat(execpt flying units ofc), with graphics to show it, that would be the coolest :d . A few other ideas, but I wont start ranting yet ;)

Features that would be nice in MoM2 :) :
Make sure the spells work, no bugs.
Ability to choose more spells - to start with or the ability to reasearch them.
Ability to save wizards, so if you get one you like you can play him on other maps.
Being able to sort cities by race/unit/food/production would be helpful.
Build queues would be handy. possibly one for buildings one for units.
I agree with Anglophile about the stacks of 9 and being able to move them through cities and other stacks.
More AI wizards in a game like 8 or 16 like civ3.
Larger maps to play on , Map editor.
Extra planes, although this will make the games longer.
Scenarios.
Better AI and diplomacy, being able to ask what they would offer for something.
Features that might be useful:
Multiplayer. (Hotseat MP is easiest to implement)
A few customisable game rules. (eg: wizards not defeated until last city is taken)
More ways to win - and the ability to pick the victory conditions apply in the current game.

I can't believe I forgot to mention this idea in my last post. For one player vs. computer wizard opponents, an option should be given between 1st and 2nd turns, to continue the game, or re-create the world
map and start 1st turn over again.

Although the "Death Settler" idea turned out not to work, it should!! Undead cities would be a great addition, possibly multiple "demonic" races?

I played MOM when it first came out (with all the bugs) and have never found another strategy/fantasy game that could touch it. I got it for my kids (yeah-right!) then in junior high. Both have now finished university and one works in portfolio management and the other for a gaming company! Anyway, I have taken the time to register so I could add my voice to the demand. Count on three pre-orders for MOM2 from my family.

Please do MOM2 ... If you totalled up all the games I have ever played other than mom... it might equal the amount of time I have spent playing MOM. There is no other game that comes close. Build it and I will buy it.

I have played on old Atari's I have a Sega Masersystem and Genesis an old NES, N64, GCube, XBOX, and a PC I have played tons of games for thousands of hours, and nothing comes close to MOM. I have lots of choices of games to play for all those consoles and the only game that I have been going back to time and again is MOM. I started playing it in 1997 at college... we would install it on the college's PC's so we could play anywhere on campus. Library, Dorm room wherever... No game has a more storied following than this game... No game has the replayability of this one... Nothing comes close. Play the original and you know the graphics suck but everything else is awesome.
