Jitters and Menu Shift

So with tonight's d/l I finally got past the black-screen lockup. The opening screen is fine except that the menu options on the right of the screen are quite faint. And when I select "New Game" I get the screen jitters and parts of the menu, the 'overlays' if you will, are shifted to the right I think and invisible in places, making the interface useless. DirecX is current as are my video drivers. Debug report follows. The Unallocated Memory Debug Message is repeated perhaps a hundred times or so, I edited them out for the sake of brevity.

Any ideas? Thanks.

The latest Nvidia drivers were released earlier this month. Your drivers appear to be from last year according to your report. It seems you need to update them.

Curious, I did a driver update from NVidia's site about an hour ago... better check again.

Thanks.

Hmmm...then you should have version 71.84. The debug.err report probably has your old drivers listed still.

I would suggest uninstalling your drivers, rebooting your computer, install the latest version, and then reboot again.  This should make sure that you have the latest drivers properly installed. Although NVidia no longer requires you to uninstall the old driver before updating, it generally works best if you do.  The debug.err reports the information directly from dxdiag so if it's reporting the old driver version, then that's a good indication that the old drivers weren't properly uininstalled.

Also, your multisampling is set to Non-maskable.  Try changing it to 2 or higher if you want anti-aliasing, or 0 if you don't.

Thanks for the assist folks! It really turned into a comedy of errors befor it was all over. I did, in fact, have to uninstall the old drivers. And when I tried to install the latest-greatest, I encountered an 'access denied' error in spite of the fact I was in an admin account... required some registry editing to get it straightened out. Then, with all the rebooting, the marginal nature of my video hardware evidenced itself, ie dead video card. Forunately I yanked a backup card out of another carcass and all is now good, well, except now my beer money is going towards a new mondo video card, heheh.

Again, thanks for the help.

C'mon, beer vs. new video card? You had to think about it?   Glad that you were able to get it running.
